I "need" it for all the camping, shooting and recovery gear which has filled the 6.5' bed

^^^^^ I love it!
Knowing the whole story of what it took for that picture to ever have been possible. So cool.
I just got back to the Gulf Coast after a 3 week 3500 mile jaunt to the opposite end of the country. It would have been much easier to haul all the gear in the 8' bed than the 6.5'. Especially since others had already loaded most of the gear in my F350. But man I really preferred that sweet KingRanch ride if I could just cram everything in. (I did)

You missed my point entirely. I only have a truck because we have a travel trailer. That trailer would be better towed by a super duty. If I didn't have the travel trailer I wouldn't have a truck at all. My truck is also my daily driver, I use that term somewhat loosely as I work from home mostly. Since it's my daily I take those kinds of things into account. To me and for my uses a 6.5' bed SCrew F-150 is basically a F-250 with less capabilities and a better ride. I rarely use the bed of my truck for 'truck things.'And driving an SD is going to improve that how? Get an SD if use warrants, but doing so because its virtually the same footprint as a 157" 150 is just silly. They ride bad, the lift in height (lift over) is a PITA, the fuel economy sucks as does handling on rough roads (see rides bad).
I did this last weekend. Ford doesn't seem to want to build the 157 I've had ordered since March. So I've been keeping my eyes open and a sorta-local dealer has an 250 that looked like it might work, so we took it for a ride. Made sure the tire pressures were down at 50, but even with that the truck had a hard time getting out of its own way pulling away from a stop on the broken pavement that is the norm in NE. Tires just skipped and hopped over the cracks under accelleration. Poor ride was an understatement and the addtional height accentuates the headtoss at surface transitions. It was bad enough that I then asked to drive an F150 again just to be sure that the hour drive to get there in my well-used '16 Tundra hadn't jaundiced my butt about ride quality. No, the 150 was nicer than the Tundra, the 250 was just that bad.
If you need the capacities, great. But the idea of going SD because the footprint of a 157 is big, that just makes no sense to me at all.
Are you asking me?Where did you go camping?
Yes I was asking you, I had a problem with posting and it didn't come thru and then it got pooched. Thanks for replying. Hope you had a great time! Are you asking me?
If you are asking @SilverPigeon ,I'm guessing somewhere on the big island. (Oz) And since there is greenery, I would assume somewhere closer to the coast rather than the heart of the island? (desert)
I just went camping in Indiana and Wisconsin. Both were work related though.
Whatever works for the buyer. There is no better or worse, get what you want or need and be happy.
But I must divulge that my intentions every time I wake up in the morning is to first celebrate waking up.
Then I begin my daily quest to squeeze everything good I can out of the day before closing my eyes again.
