Off the wall question about auto update.

Do the doors/windows need to be locked/up for these to install???

my pickup is seldom locked up at home, and frequently one of the widows is down.
(Is locked at work and when I go into town)

Im suspecting the doors or the fact that the new larger battery is is not charging as it should.
I got one update shortly after replacing battery last march, but nothing since

None of that would prevent updates.
As mentioned to VIN lookup thread to see if something might be wrong.

I appreciate the detailed intel amigo. I may opt into the “immediate gratification” choice. Thanks for your input!
If you still have the OEM battery it is advised that you change it out and reset the BMS. There are a lot of threads in this forum (and others) documenting bad OEM batteries. Many people are reporting that going to a high quality aftermarket unit solved a lot of problems.

Going back to the headlight switch question the OP originally posed and being serious for just a moment - did the Ford Pass technician not know that it’s a soft switch? There’s no way I know of to put the switch in the “off” position and expect it to stay there. As soon as you shut down the engine, the switch “forgets” what position it was in.
So unless we’re all missing something, that “technician” probably either needs some remedial training or he needs a new job. Maybe he could sub in for the Ford Motor Company bot on this forum.

Did you do a BMS reset after the new battery install?

that was my observation as well. The switch will return to auto–fine by me–and not stay in off. Tech said his info stated that the OTA puts the truck in accessory mode and that may drain the battery. ?

Did you do a BMS reset after the new battery install?
I did not.
Tried several times, but it never took, nor gave me an indication that it did.
But, I did manage a successful BMS reset this weekend.

Battery was low. Engineering mode showed 12 volts
key off and meter on the battery gave me 12.3
Will check again Thursday or Friday.

You can set headlight switch to use the last state and not revert to auto with Forscan. One of first things I did. When I want off, I want off. :)

That may well be true. But it's a little far fetched to think that the FordPass "technician" would expect the customer on the other end of the phone to know that, and to know how to do that?

Stand on your head while drinking a glass of water and rubbing your belly at the same time, only preform OTA's by the light of a full moon while dancing naked while you sprinkle pixie dust all over your truck!
I do this all the time and never get failed updates. It totally works!

Nor would they have a clue what Forscan is.
The things that a Service Writer, service department technician, mechanic, and/or Ford customer service representative will say to a customer...........
Especially an informed customer, like the modern day forum member. They just don't know what they don't know. :)

None of the stuff Ford support says to do matters. A good charged battery and you are good to go. No fancy dance necessary. :)
