Hey folks — I’ve had several unsuccessful automatic software upgrades the past week. I spoke to a tech at FordPass who said that I need to disable the auto headlight setting to receive the software. When I leave my truck, locked, ignition off and headlight switch in the manual/off position, it still returns to the auto lamp position, which prevents a successful download. What am I missing? Thx.

I have left my 2022 Lariat PB headlight setting on A (Auto) its entire life and have not had an OTA update fail for that. The battery yes but headlight auto, no.

if you have the original battery on a 2022 that could be the problem. If you have a charger it would be good to charge up your battery the day the update is scheduled. That helped me on a big OTA update that would not go through. Once I charged my old battery that day, it worked. Good luck.

I think you need to find a new tech. ?

I've had successful updates and my lights have been in auto the whole time. What I have found that prevents successful updates is low voltage on the 12V circuit. Either a bad batch of batteries from Ford, or lots of short trips that don't give enough time to recharge the 12V batteries.

Most likely low battery levels.
Head over to VIN lookup thread and Rugedraw can see what the Ford side says for your failures.

H8 battery should fit fine in your truck if you do need to replace stock battery. Bigger is better with all the electronics in high trim trucks.

I believe that was FordPass support. There is a thread here where they make it seem like you need to disable your entire vehicle to install an update.

Did he also give you the piece of sassafras root and the words to the secret incantation you need to recite as you sloooowly back away from the truck, never taking your eyes off the cowl vent?
Seriously, what a bunch of malarkey.
Stand on your head while drinking a glass of water and rubbing your belly at the same time, only preform OTA's by the light of a full moon while dancing naked while you sprinkle pixie dust all over your truck! Seriously , where do people come up with this stuff!

Send me the VIN and I can tell you why it failed or is failing.

Don't forget that a Blue Moon and a herd of Elephants fly over the truck getting the update.

Yep. Original battery. Still checks out at 90% charging capacity tho. I still will charge it up on update night. Thanks

You have two active OTA trigger in queue right now. The one trying to install now is for a door module and the one after is 6.8.0 for the IPC. The current OTA is failing due to low battery stats:

"errorCode":"InhibitRequiredHvNotQualifiedLvLow(204)""currentLvBatterySoc":"47""totalLvBatteryCapacity":"34""currentLvBatteryVoltage":"12""currentLvBatteryTemperature":"37""currentLvBatteryDataQuality":"OK""dynamicPostUpdateSocThreshold":"41""estimatedTimeToActivate":"1254""estimatedTimeIncludingRollback":"2508""currentDrainRate":"9"

One has to install before the other can. SoC is low at 47% and assuming you have an OEM spec battery, the capacity is low at 34 of 70. I would recommend charging the battery over night and try to install in the morning when the LVB is topped off. Or, for more instant gratification, drive the truck for a good 20-30 minutes with the a/c fan speed set on at least 5 (this will force the truck to charge the LVB) and try to manually install it as soon as you park it.

I appreciate the detailed intel amigo. I may opt into the “immediate gratification” choice. Thanks for your input!

Off the wall question about auto update.

Do the doors/windows need to be locked/up for these to install???

my pickup is seldom locked up at home, and frequently one of the widows is down.
(Is locked at work and when I go into town)

Im suspecting the doors or the fact that the new larger battery is is not charging as it should.
I got one update shortly after replacing battery last march, but nothing since
