I recently for the first time selected slippery mode and it shifted into 4wd which makes sense. Upon selecting Normal mode it did NOT shift back into 2wd. Is this normal? I had select the 2 wd button.

I could be wrong, but I thought if I was moving (in gear) it would switch back to 2WD. If stationary (park?) or after a restart, it would not do it without hitting the button.

I took it to the dealer and the tech said that is how it should work. Seems stupid to me. Will automatically go into 4wd but not out.

Again, if moving, I'm pretty sure it will go back to 2WD if you move the selector out of 'Slippery' and back to 'Normal'. I'll have to double-check tomorrow.

I argued with the service manager and he said the tech went out into the lot and tried another truck. I explained it three times but i dont think i got my point across. He kept saying if you have to go into slippery mode to get the 4wd to work then select it out. When i asked what he meant by selecting out he wouldnt say if you turn the top or push to the button to get it back into 2wd

Mine changes to 2H when switching back to normal, but it isn't an apples to apples comparison because it's a Lariat with 4 Auto.

My XL switches back to 2H when I go from Slippery to Normal.

Is yours 4A or 4H that it shifts into? Bit of a difference between the two. Do you have a Lariat or higher trim?

I have an XLT with 4x4 and it will shift into 4H and back into 2H when I select in and out if slippery mode, but I don't have 4A on my trim level. If you have a Lariat or higher trim, you'll have 4A and it will likely stay in 4A which isn't a problem on dry roads.

My Lariat doesn't stay in 4A. It goes to 4A when switching to slippery, back to 2H when switching back to normal.

There are fewer traction control options available when in 2WD. If I have the truck in 2WD I can rotate the seletor to see which are available. Overall it works exceedingly well to prevent wheel slip with my pickup and with the truck I no longer need to have it in 4WD to be able to back up in my steep driveway.

On steep pavement there is not enough weight to back up a hill but enough to go forward. But there are times when I want to back up on a steep road and with other trucks and SUVs I needed to be in 4WD. Very nice to have the same traction with 2WD and the electronic locking rear differential in the F-150. It is my favorite aspect of the Ford F-150.

Confirmed this AM. Mine will go into 4A when switching to 'Slippery' and then go back to 2H when I turn the selector knob back to 'Normal'.

I've noticed is that, if it's in 'Slippery' (or any other 4A mode) and I shut the truck OFF, when I restart it asks if I want to return to that 4A mode -- if I say NO, it goes to Normal mode but does NOT switch back to 2H at that point. I have to press the 2H button (upper left corner of the 4 buttons that surround my mode selector) OR use the mode selector to chose a different mode, then subsequently go to normal, at which time it goes back to 2H.

That’s interesting….mine is a 2023 Lariat and it shifts into 4A on slippery. But when selecting normal or shutting the truck off and on, it stays in 4Auto. Wish it wouldn’t.
