Burns out.

It's amazing what customers are told by the people employed to service the product.

The FDRS thread is a thousand of pages of years of FDRS sessions. Not once have I heard someone say a module burned out.
No magic blue smoke?

The things people say when they don't know what they are talking about, and how stupid it makes them look.

(Sorry for the long post) Hi all! I've been using this site for a long time and have owned several Ford trucks. A 1998, a 2005, a 2009, a 2018 and now my 2021. I've pretty much read all the forums concerning the OTA updates for my 2021, and have G'oo'gled it until I'm now blue in the face. My Automatic Updates and Schedule Updates toggles have always been grayed out and I had no Version or Revision - they were both blank. One day, and for no apparent reason, the version and the revision showed up one time and I took a picture - it showed Version: 20262_PRODUCT and Revision: 229. I just assumed my truck was updating itself so I never gave it much thought. Boy was I wrong. So, I took my truck to the Ford dealership in Herculaneum, MO to have some recalls completed on 3/6/2024 and I asked them to please address the Sync not updating issue. They actually put it on my receipt, "ADVISED BY FORD NOT TO UPDATE SYSTEM MANUALLY-SYSTEM SHOULD UPDATE AUTOMATICALLY IN THE FUTURE" so they didn't even bother looking at it. Seriously? I bought this truck brand new and it still has the Sync version on it that it rolled off the assembly line on 3/9/2021 with. I called Ford and spent 2.5 hours on the phone with 4 different technicians trying a whole myriad of different things. They told me that NO WAY would Ford tell a dealership to NOT update my system manually (since it obviously has never updated itself). They did tell me that the last update attempted on 2/17/2024 failed but wouldn't give me any reason as to why. A few days later, that same Ford dealer called me out of the blue and tried to back paddle on me and wanted me to bring it in so they could look at it. I'm guessing Ford contacted them and maybe had some choice things to say. I said no thanks, I've already set an appointment with another Ford dealership and I won't be back there. The 2nd dealership in Desoto, MO tried 4 times to manually update it and it failed each time. So, they ordered an APIM module and replaced it last week on 3/14 and now I have Sync Version: 21146 Rev: 145. Also, I'm able to turn on the automatic updates and the schedule updates toggles. My question is, has anyone else run into something similar? Is 21146 also a problematic version? My truck still says "Your system is up to date" and I know there is a whole list of updates it needs. How long does it normally take for a truck to start finding updates? BTW, I bought the truck in 4/2021 and my warranty expires next month (hence the anxiousness). Should I ask if anyone rents the equipment needed to just do it myself? If so, anyone around the St. Louis area? I would definitely make the drive!

My 2021 F-150 VIN is *REMOVED*. Thanks all!!

@OldMan1962 Something doesn't look right to me. Post a pic of your "about sync" screen.

This picture was taken 3/15/24 after APIM replacement.
No pic attached.

@OldMan1962 Edit: I see it now. Something looks off to me. Serial number matches, but Sync version does not. The PMI procedure that the dealer does to program a new module does not show that it went through. This goes beyond my scope of knowledge. Stand by while I get more info. I will most likely have to get back to you tomorrow.

Man is that going to be a long sit to apply 3 years of updates.
But it's also exciting to consider how much fruit is waiting to be harvested. It's hard to imagine combining all the FDRS sessions I've had since the 2021 first plugged into that Nano. (Yea, I started before the Mongoose became a thing)

It will be a very different truck in so many ways. Some differences will smack you in the face. Others will be more subtle. And then more will be transparent, but more mature software nonetheless.

Hey all, hoping for some info on updates both OTA and modules. Looking for where I stand, what's queued and what's still pending.

Truck successfully downloaded 6.5.0 but refuses to install it, so any info on that would also be greatly appreciated.

Vin is: 1FTFW1E53MFB13589

Thanks in advance!

As far as the OTA is not installing, this is what PTS is showing. Maybe some one can interpret the reason showing. To me, it is something to do with the battery. I am only guessing tho.
