Tac in the dash...wow. I remember when the tac was mounted on the steering column with a gear clamp. Temp, Oil and fuel were the only ones I remember. Welcome to the world of technology....

I remember having to notch the clamp so it would fit the column better. Sun Super Tach II was the one to have back in the day

Remember when your dash had a tach, speedometer, oil temp, radiator temp, and maybe a check engine warning light? Those days are long gone!

While waiting for my 2025 King Ranch PowerBoost to arrive, I ordered the hard copy owners manual from Helm. Near the front of the manual it lists all the symbols that may show up on your new truck. There are NINE pages of symbols/warnings!!!! That is 241 symbols!!! Yikes!

I remember when cars had no ECUs at all, and then every MFG started to have one ECU for the powertrain. Most cars have at least 10-12 ECU modules and over a few dozen sensors.

I still have/own a car (toy car) that uses a single ECU, which can be programmed on the fly by my local tuner shop. ?

I have two trucks that have an ecu from the factory but will run and drive without them. One is a 1997, the other is a 1998.

Thanks for the mention of the Helm manual. I just got an Active Air Dam alert which *appears* to be related to a recent firmware update. I've ordered a manual as this will only happen more and more as the truck ages.

I appreciate the new and the old. My first F150 was an '88 XLT Lariat which had all the bells and whistles (A/C, Carpet, cloth seats, even a cassette player my goodness!) and an I6/4spd stick shift. Lots of fun memories from my teens and 20's with that truck. Fast forward to today and my 2024 is a rolling computer with a hybrid motor and I love it just as much.

Luckily I still have my old Mustang if I want the raw experience of rowing the gears in a pushrod V8 with no electronic nannies so best of both worlds, right?

I'd still be daily driving antiques if it wasn't for the safety features and increased efficiency modern vehicles offer. I also appreciate the much cleaner exhaust. Classics make good toys though.
