I’m going to call total BS at the 3.5 EB being #1 and the 2.7 EB being so far down the list. Everyone knows Gen 1 3.5’s were by FAR the most troublesome engines in the 12th gen F-150. These studies are always hard to track and don’t count engine replacements etc., it’s just trucks on the road this is more to do with car accidents than anything else. Motors that blow up early also have a higher chance of being on road later than ones that last a long time because you’ve been through 2-3 motors. The 5.4 Triton being up there is also a joke, colossal piece of shit, I owned two of them.

I'm kind of surprised but also not in a way. The article does point out that Ford produces so many trucks that there will naturally be more of them for sale in the used market. The 3.5 has been out longer than the 2.7 and has always been pushed by Ford as its flagship engine for the fleet.

They also mention that they weren't going to go into the service history of all 1 million vehicles they sampled to see what sort of repairs these engines had. The Internet is full of negative comments on every engine to some extent so all we can really go on is personal experience. I owned a 1st gen 3.5 for 13 years and had no major issues with it after 93k miles and that's all I can really go by.

I've come to the conclusion I could post a study saying researchers have found that it gets lighter outside when the sun rises and there will always be someone who finds a way to dispute the findings.

Not that I'm complaining but there could be a production level correction to this study.

It would offset Fords outperformance in that regard and give a more true estimate.
Production numbers by engine type aren't publicly stated, so it would be impossible to include that metric.

Don't see a turbo engine have more long term reliability than a NA engine.
One article doesn't make it fact.

Had horrible low tq. Compared to my other engines
I had both generations 3.5 eco boost
My 2022 was excellent 3.5
