oh I agree it is garbage, yet for some reason the Ford engineers thought to make it work this way.
I don't know if its been said in this thread as I didn't read it entirely, but this has been true on fords for over 20 years, sadly; its not just the F150s.
Recirculated air makes you weak

This was the Ford engineer’s original concept several decades ago when they elected to implement this technology.

It would definitely smell better in the truck if I had three passengers pulling bong hits than smelling the nasty exhaust from the vehicles in front of me or the local paper mill.

Can you send over a message with your VIN and the name/location of the Ford dealer you are currently working with? I would like to see what I can do to assist with your recirculation concerns.

How can I send a private message and how do I know who I'm sending it to?

What is most infuriating isnt that its happening, its the fact that owners are suffering because Ford refuses to allow owners to control their own aircon.

Atleast 3rd parties managed to override the auto-on/off system...

I could understand if the occupant had the HVAC in some preprogrammed "auto" mode that included Ford's logic/strategy.
But there's no excuse for the occupant to NOT have manual control over every aspect of HVAC, if they chose to. I should be able to freeze myself if I want. Burn myself if I want. And fog up the windows if I want.
At the very least I should be allowed to respond to the environment with my own human strategy.

Has anyone had success with aftermarket cabin air filters? I just replaced mine the other day with a standard Wix brand one, but I was intrigued by some of the charcoal ones that claim to filter out more. They can get pricey but if they work and keep me from punching the recirculation button all the time, I'd spring for it.

I tried a fancy Bosch one with similar hopes. Unfortunately it reduced the airflow and caused mold, so I went back to OEM.

I run this one in both my wife's car and the truck and it does a fairly impressive job at controlling the exhaust odors in winter time. Gasoline fumes are practically non-existent and diesel odors are significantly reduced to just be a minor annoyance. I still turn the HVAC off when I am directly behind one out of habit. The biggest plus is when sitting at a light the cab doesn't reek of exhaust fumes.

I would pay every penny I had to my name to find the jackass engineer(s) who came up with this anti-fogging strategy and force them to sit in the truck in rush hour traffic behind a fleet of diesel dually's just so they can really appreciate their handy work in action.

Hey guys, I'm on the same boat here. The other day while turning on that air re-circulation button a million times over a long trip I started wondering if there could be a simple device that I can install over the button to just sense when the light turns off and press the button automatically.

I mean yeah, is a ridiculous solution but I would definitely pay for this if it was on the market.

So if any of you know of anything close for sale please let me know and if you are interested in me making this device and sell it to you guys let me know as well.

Not trying to make a quick buck, I would just be way more motivated to make this for myself if I can recoup some money for the time and labor by selling a few of these.

:)
Thanks ahead.

There's quite a bit of recirc options -- I'd bet the PCM is the problem - flip PCM recirc to disabled
