Thanks for the information. I discovered the recall [two days ago] on the Ford Pass App. I have a 2022 F150 Power Boost. Called my purchasing dealership this morning [AutoNation Ford Littleton, CO] about it and to make an appointment to promptly get it done. Imagine my surprise/disgust/dismay when they acknowledged the recall and offered an appointment to fix it on July 18th .....

I declined their gracious appointment as we plan on being in Alaska with our camper right about then.... I suppose I need to approach another dealership shortly ...

Also Found these documents on a YouTube video post that apparently relate to this recall:

Your last document is exactly what I've been looking to understand. It confirms the version of the software required to address the recall. Thanks

Great find!!!
Ha! And the manufacturer is next to my work office.
So s/w version needs to be ML3T-19J297-DH

I haven’t seen anyone report this version yet.

The recall flash procedure fixes it. Just had it done today as well as had parts put on back order for the windshield wiper motor recall.
Are you sure that was it? Sounds like this https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/trailer-right-turn-lamp-fault.2462/page-3#post-182064 . We’ve been having this issue anyway—the flasher indicator blinks rapidly even though the lights actually blink normally. Accompanied by messageabout failure/problem that comes and goes. That would be fantastic if this fixed that.

@Ford Motor Company can you confirm how quickly the recall notice should disappear from the FordPass app after the service has been done?

My dealership supposedly did the recall update on 4/11, but as of right now it is still showing the recall as incomplete.

F188 on the Trailer Module is showing: ML3T-19J297-BA as the version.

Anyone else seeing this version number on a Job 1 truck?

I too am wondering this. Had the recall done (supposedly) successfully.l yesterday. Still shows in the Ford pass app.

How does a laymen like myself know if anything was actually done? I won't be hooking up my trailer for a couple weeks to test.

I'm told by Ford that my 2021 F-150 (built in Dec 2020 at KCAP) isn't subject to this recall but they couldn't tell me why.

I explained that in light of the documentation in the public domain (which implies that my truck does have the issue) I need to hear a compelling explanation as to why it is nevertheless not subject to the recall and therefore why I shouldn't be concerned about it. But no such explanation was forthcoming, so I assumed it was because I installed the trailer brake controller myself.

I haven't pulled a trailer yet with this truck but I was planning to do so this summer thus I want to get the problem fixed. So today I took the truck to the dealer who programmed the module for me back in July 2021 and he said they updated the software from MU5T-19J297-DF to ML3T-19J297-BA.

But from what I'm reading in this thread it would seem that this update doesn't correct the problem. This sucks.

ML3T-19J297-DH is the version that addresses the recall.

As of this morning Ford's recall checker is showing that my VIN no longer needs the recall. I just re-downloaded the Vehicle Module Info from the widget and it is still showing F188 as ML3T-19J297-BA (no surprise). Geez, what a mess!

I found this thread a few days too late.
My 12/2022 F150 XLT Max tow 3.5 EB has similar issues as found in the other thread, so I had the recall service done last Friday 4/15 for 22s17.

Hooked up the trailer and found no difference.
it detects the trailer but doesn’t give any braking.
It doesn’t matter if the gain is Low 6 or High 9, manually squeezing the brake applies the same force - not much. (My trailer is only 3800 lbs. loaded)

When I hit the truck brake, shouldn’t the trailer brake screen also pop up showing its effort? Mine doesn’t.

I cleaned the plug prongs in my brand new trailer and tried some dielectric grease. Seems worse now.
The trailer alarm function is now greyed out and the blind spot detection got disabled.

We’re pulling the trailer from Maryland to Oregon in two weeks. With an 18’ camping trailer as light as mine, should I be concerned about the trip if I’m unable to get it sorted out beforehand?

Concerned yes, but not paralyzed. We’ve been towing without the new software without incident. But you need to do two things.

First, buy some spray electronics contact cleaner and clean off that dielectric grease. It’s non-conductive and probably made things worse.

Second, be vigilant. After starting your motor and before moving, check the brake controller by manually squeezing the override. If it shows that the trailer is not connected, stop the motor and turn off the ignition, open and close the door and wait about 10 minutes for all the relays to reset. Don’t touch anything and if you can leave the truck entirely all the better. Then restart the ignition and motor. If manually activating the brake controller shows the brakes are connected, you can set off. If not, repeat the process again until they connect. Might take a few times. While in motion and particularly when approaching an off ramp, periodically push one of the gain buttons and make sure the brakes are still connected. If not, slow down and increase your stopping distance until you can safely pull off. Then repeat the process again.

As long as you are consistently checking, especially after first starting the ignition, you should be ok. But you have to pay attention. The real danger is not that the trailer brakes aren’t connected—it’s not knowing they aren’t connected and then planning to rely on them.

Just finished about a 700 mile trip from JAX, FL to Athens, GA and back over the last week. We left Wednesday and got back yesterday. I always do the tug test (foot off brake, slight roll, & squeeze controller) before driving. We averaged about 8 mpg doing 55-65mph and stopped every 2 hours there and back to refuel as that would use about half the tank. Even tested locking out 8 when in boost going uphill, but sometimes the truck would still use boost in 5/6/7 pulling a 6500lb TT uphill in the foothills of GA. I only experienced a loss of the brake controller one time and it was as we were pulling out of our camp site and heading to the dump station. Fortunately, the dumping process was long enough for the truck to reset and we had brakes as we were pulling out of the dump station after restarting the truck again.

Just picked up my 2022 King Ranch last Friday 4/15. It was built on 1/25 and then went into chip hold until 3/20. No recall notice in FordPass.

Trip from dealer to sister's house (30 mi) was fine and then to Newark Airport (60 mi). However, going to my daughter's (240 mi) the Trailer Brake Malfunction alarm sounded and popped up on the dasboard with one option - OK. Press ok and it cleared, but kept showing sometimes as often as every 30 seconds. Finally stopped at rest stop, got a bit to eat, restarted the truck and no more alarm. Hasn't showed up again - at least not yet. Hope it's not a sign of future problems since I haven't received a recall notice.
