I’ve followed this recall with some interest as my son-in-law has a ’21 (but ended up being outside the build date range), and my previously owned ’18 with the 2.7EB made with Silchrome-Lite intakes (which weren’t affected for whatever manufacturing reasons). This is what I expected.
Does anyone have the documentation on the procedure? Probably lists the number of engine hours that won't require the stress test.
Everyone should get the notice by mail that the testing is available at dealer. Had mine several weeks ago but I'm not rushing into it.
Anyway all I’ve found is the general procedure description here: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCMN-24V635-8989.pdf
It’s light on procedure details (rpms during the test, data recorded, etc). Supposedly a 55 minute test after the “30 minute max. idle” is disabled. You do get a “free” oil/filter change before the test (woohoo!). Interesting that the Edge model calls for box fans set up at the rear tires. And includes the warning that Airengineer1 noted: “WARNING: This vehicle may become hot and emit an odor during the 55-minute test.”
If the engine shuts down during the test and can’t be restarted, you get a new engine. If the engine does shut down but can be restarted but then (a) has ‘noise concerns’ (?), you get a new engine, or (b) has no noise concerns you evidently do the test over again.
