This is what I expected.

Does anyone have the documentation on the procedure? Probably lists the number of engine hours that won't require the stress test.

Everyone should get the notice by mail that the testing is available at dealer. Had mine several weeks ago but I'm not rushing into it.
I’ve followed this recall with some interest as my son-in-law has a ’21 (but ended up being outside the build date range), and my previously owned ’18 with the 2.7EB made with Silchrome-Lite intakes (which weren’t affected for whatever manufacturing reasons).

Anyway all I’ve found is the general procedure description here: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCMN-24V635-8989.pdf

It’s light on procedure details (rpms during the test, data recorded, etc). Supposedly a 55 minute test after the “30 minute max. idle” is disabled. You do get a “free” oil/filter change before the test (woohoo!). Interesting that the Edge model calls for box fans set up at the rear tires. And includes the warning that Airengineer1 noted: “WARNING: This vehicle may become hot and emit an odor during the 55-minute test.”

If the engine shuts down during the test and can’t be restarted, you get a new engine. If the engine does shut down but can be restarted but then (a) has ‘noise concerns’ (?), you get a new engine, or (b) has no noise concerns you evidently do the test over again.

So potentially drop off at dealer then be without your vehicle for months as they wait for a new engine to come in. 🙄

Looks like my truck to be is covered under this recall as well. Yay!!!

It's a 2021 2.7L and dad only put a little under 18k on it since he bought it new. Apparently the notice that "parts are available, schedule your inspection." Came in while dad was in the hospital last month. I hadn't looked very closely at it and wouldn't have been in a rush to get it done, at least waited until I got a few other vehicles serviced and fixed around the house so that I could use it if need be. Of course mom has a bad habbit of worrying over every little thing.

Last week I was driving the truck while I tried to fix some brake issues on the car (new brakes dragging and squeeling). Swapped vehicles back so I could drive the car for a few days and make sure is was fixed. Next morning she informs me that she's scheduled the recall for this upcoming Tuesday. After reading through all of this I'm really wishing that I had been able to stop her from doing that, but technically it isn't my truck yet. Well, I hope that the brakes on the car are actually fixed now (they seem to be), cause I ain't going to be able to borrow the truck again if they blow the motor.

Kind of wishing that I hadn't decided to search it up now. Not sure whether to hope that they don;t have to run the idle test, or that they do run it and blow the thing up. Wait months for a new engine to be installed, or deal with potential future issues from it being held at 4k rpm for that long. For me, I don't think that the extended warranty is going to help one bit, pretty sure that dad bought the extended warranty with the truck (haven't seen the paperwork yet) and at the rate it's been driven so far driven it'll probably still be working on 50k miles at the 10 year mark.

I'm currently getting my engine replaced under this recall. I'll update people on timing and performance afterwards if you're interested.

Did you have the dealer perform the recall first?

How did they determine the engine needed replaced?

Did the engine become damaged before you took it to the dealer?

It started misfiring, took it to the dealer that day, sent them the recall notice. They checked the engine valve and saw that it was cracked. Pretty sure that was all they needed to know.

There's another recall out there for fuel pump that can cause misfiring, so if you encounter misfiring it could be that — or a TSB related to the MAP sensor.

Anyone else ave this recall performed?
Did they run the high idle test or did it pass due to reaching number of cycles. Can you include mileage?

We took my daughter's 2021 f-150 in this morning. It was bought new in September of 2021 and has 31,300 miles on it. The Ford diagnostic and repair software was run and did NOT instruct the tech to run the 55 minute engine valve (blow up) test. All trucks that complete the recall have the warranty upgraded to 10years/150k miles. Hope this helps.

Paperwork in the mail says the dealer visit is optional and extended coverage to 10 years or 150k miles for valve failure.

I'll have to read my paperwork...but I took my truck in... they didn't have to do the long, brick on the accelerator test... but it took them some time to check.

I’m going to see about taking mine in in a couple weeks. Get the test done, the camera recall and some other stuff. I only have 20k on mine right now so I’m betting the odds are I’ll have to be tested.

Had my recalls done today for the valves and rear camera. Both recalls used the FDRS tool and the running test was NOT required but I see line items for a filter and 6qts oil. Not sure why they’d do an oil change if the test wasn’t required? Could they be tearing the filter apart looking for metal because I didn’t think that was part of the inspection? I certainly won’t complain about a free oil change though!

That is kind of weird. You can always call them and ask.
