Almost certainlySounds like a smart move. I wonder if this was caused by that asshole ceo quitting and Tim Kuniskis taking over Ram?
Gen 15 should be out sometime in 2026/2027 and ford would be stupid to not make the powerboost a phev or make a lightning range extender option. In all honestly I am excited to see that Ram hybrid hit the street and see it field tested. If it works out well 2030 is probably my target date unless Ford does something significant with the Powerboost system by then..
Excellent question I hadn't thought of, what happens to your towing performance while the gas motor is working to replenish the battery. How long does it take for it to do that under heavy load. Will that be the trade-off of the Ram Charger system, better day to day than Powerboost but far lower towing limits?I think the concept is good, but what happens when towing and you deplete the battery? Do you end up with the power output of a Pentastar?
At speed you shouldn't be using that much energy to maintain it... Stopping and going alot is going to be a different story. I don't think it would be an issue though unless you're stomping the pedals in heavy traffic, or going up a mountain. even then some software could aid that.I think the concept is good, but what happens when towing and you deplete the battery? Do you end up with the power output of a Pentastar?
I'd expect the same degradation as with any vehicle. On my PB I get about 9 mpg towing our travel trailer at 70-72 MPH, vs 18 mpg when not towing. So a 50% reduction. I'd expect the RAM to be comparable range when towing (280-300 miles).Excellent question I hadn't thought of, what happens to your towing performance while the gas motor is working to replenish the battery. I don't think you'll ever need to stop to charge/recharge. It'll just "work", kinda like generator mode on the PB. And I expect the same approximate towing range.Excellent question I hadn't thought of, what happens to your towing performance while the gas motor is working to replenish the battery. according to ram there is no mechanical connection between the ICE and the drive trainI would think you'd end up with the power of the pentastar minus conversion losses to go from mechanical power to electrical and then back again.
Naw…..ya just call a buddy with a Powerboost to come out and charge the Ram up.I think the concept is good, but what happens when towing and you deplete the battery? Do you end up with the power output of a Pentastar?
The article says the ice motor can either recharge the battery or send power directly to the electric motors, so you wouldn’t notice the change.I think the concept is good, but what happens when towing and you deplete the battery? Do you end up with the power output of a Pentastar?
