My job 1 '21 had the transmission update done over 1 yr ago that resolved the transmission shudder that was present while applying light throttle at hwy speeds and when accelerating slowly uphill. This was a fairly common problem.

A couple of weeks ago, now at 73,000 mikes I felt it return and thought I was being crazy. Now I am sure of it.

Not sure of this has anything to do with it but I did have my truck reset the "My View" setting twice over the last month that was not a software update. I thought I must have missed a message but after checking there was no Sync update though my settings for driver gauge display had been affected. Could be a coincidence.

Anyone else had this happen?

Good morning. Can you please send over a message with your VIN and estimated mileage? I would like to take a closer look at your transmission shudder concerns on my end.

Well my previously good transmission has been jerky, what some would say is shuddering ever since that last OTA update a few weeks ago. Whatever Ford did changed how it shifts, not for the better at least in my truck.

I realized yesterday that I am also getting the intermittent high pitch vibration that sounds like your running over a rumble strip at 1300-1500rpm as well. More of a whine that last 1/2 second that you can feel vibrate the truck but not harshly. That has been happening now for a few weeks but I honestly thought it was the road surface where I was.

I love this truck even after having to make a few service calls for previous updates needed, etc. I now have to add Ford's incompetence with updates to the standard wear and tear, and electrical issues that may arrise after my esp is expired. WTH???

For those of you following...crickets from "Ford" after posting my VIN and mileage.. Unfortunately what I expected.

Maybe its Stockholm Syndrome but I keep thinking Ford is gonna come through and prove me wrong.

Took it in under the ESP and now I have to prepay for rental since no dealership seems to have "loaners" anymore even as they are overstocked and there is no shortage of dealer tags driving around(usually premium models of course). Just no cars for us mere "customers" paid a premium for loaner coverage in our ESP plan. Of course I will get reimbursed when Ford picks up the tab after verifying what the service advisor already verified. Still pretty shitty though.

My dealership rents their vehicles out now instead of just providing loaners. The rental I had through them had a dealer tag on it. They ended up waiving my rental fee for the week I drove their Explorer since they couldn't fix my issue, although all signs pointed to the problem and they acknowledge that's likely the issue.

I have my 21 PB XLT in for another issue and the loaner is a 24 XLT V8 and the tranny is as smooth as silky butter. My 21 has never been as smooth as this one. I asked them to look at my 21 while it is there and see if they can get it as smooth as this 2024 loaner is.

****UPDATE****

...
6 1/2 weeks after dropping my truck off(6/10) to address shudder and intermittent "rumble strip" noise, the dealer is reaching out to Ford for assistance again.

They have run all updates and updated the PCM. After that did not fix the issue, a "special tool" was used from Ford that should have been able to specify the issue.

I received a call confirming that there was an issue found "coming from the powertrain" but the tool could not identify the cause. After receiving approval from me to remove my RCI skid plates and running the tests again, they again came up empty handed. They reached out to Ford for assistance once more.

Ford advised that they follow procedures for the TSB issued on 6/26 for the IWE for the 4wd system. I shared my skepticism reminding them the tool identified the issue at the rear of the truck. They assured me that Ford was confident that the symptoms I had were consistent with the IWE issue... and of course that did not fix the issue.

Needless to say I am very disappointed in Ford not being able to fix this issue. Per Ford they confirmed this was a warrantable repair but they cannot figure out the issue. That also means I am still out $482 paid for a loaner car and will not be reimbursed by Ford until they find a fix and "close the ticket". WTF??

My peace of mind I purchased with the ESP is now out the window. What good is a warranty if they can't fix their own damn product and don't honor the loaner car coverage without making you pay out of your pocket knowing there is a chance you will rack up significant expenses without the reassurance it will be covered by warranty.

FWIW I am the 2nd owner of the truck, purchased in 11/21 at 10k miles and am now at 74k. My esp plan ends in February 2025.

Interesting that the dealer didnt automatically think CDF drum like mine did. Apparently theres not only an updated drum, but seals as well.

Transmission issues like a shudder are often a known problem with some Ford models, and updates usually aim to fix them. If the shudder is back, it could be a sign that the fix wasn’t permanent, or the problem has resurfaced. It’s unlikely that resetting the “My View” settings would affect the transmission, especially if you didn’t get any software updates along with it.

It’s a good idea to check if there are any new TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) or recalls related to your transmission.

The truck is now completely up to date(there were 20 modules updated) and the tsb issued 6/26 was performed.

I think the issue that has them stumped is the "rumble strip noise" but no shake or vibration in the 1300-1700 rom range in any gear.

Shameless super late ask if there’s an update?
