I currently have a 2021 f150 ecoboost and use for pulling a travel trailer for camping. Has been great but i want to buy a larger trailer and the max payload and Gvwr arent enough. Am considering looking for a used 22 -24 powerboost. The trailer dry is 5800 and the tongue is 594. Would need a payload of more than 2000

Is that possible and how does the PB perform towing. Are there any sites or posts that explain more fully?

Appreciate any info.

Thanks

I've only seen one PB with a PL that high.

Our TT is in the 7500lb. class and it tows great.

But its just the 2 of us and can keep the load in the truck low, reserving PL for tongue weight.

From what I have seen, a PowerBoost with a payload over 1600lbs is rare unless you have access to a fleet-only XL model. Otherwise, the XLT is the lowest trim level that the PB is available and those seem to land around low 1500-1600lb payloads depending on options.

Edit to answer the other part of the question:

My PB has been awesome towing so far. Biggest load was a u-haul car trailer @ ~6k lbs and possibly slightly overloaded with a safe and various other crap in the bed/cab. Got 15mpg with that load and acceleration/braking/handling was fine.

My sig.

Just don't load up with heavy options. No Moonroof, No FX, No optional tailgates.

From the factory. However, pretty much optioned out on the truck. This excludes added hard quad fold Ford tonneau cover, spray in bed liner, mud flaps, wheel well liners, weather tech front and back floor mats and a hood bug deflector from Ford.

Maybe 1150 pounds top, if that. Then add your tow ball and draw bar to that as well when I tow my small tent trailer. Not a lot of payload left when you subtract two passengers from the total payload. PB will generally always max payload way before towing capacity.

Here is my ratings from Ford. 2024 Lariat PB. Short box, only 2.4kw, no sunroof, no fancy tailgate.

Overall, you're going to be better off with a f250. It's got the payload, massive towing capability, enough for an upgrade beyond where you're planning and a a small 2kw inverter, which I think doesn't have the powerboost's battery.

I used my 21 PB Lariet 4x4 to tow what was around 7,000 pound RV for around a total of 10,000 miles before we sold the RV. Used the bed for extra bottled water , a grill and paper supplies. Had no issues at all. I did replace the factory shocks with Bilsteins and had a killer wt distribution/anti sway hitch. The truck sat level with the rig hitched. We did around 8mpg on the first 8,000 mostly out west. A little better on a run to OBX. Steady running on interstate around 65 is best. You don’t want to encounter one of the notorious exploding Chinese tires. We survived with them partially by monitoring pressures each day. Normal driving PB has averaged 23+ over 4 years.

I’ve towed a 7700 lbs travel trailer close to 20,000 miles this year. My 23 Lariat PB has done excellent. I’m probably usually a little over payload or right at it, but the truck doesn’t seem to mind. I have the Roadmaster spring setup in the rear plus Max Tow axle. It is a lower profile trailer at around 10’9”. Frontal area is the biggy at highway speeds. I can go 75 easily with plenty of power, but for mileage sake I like to go 65-70. Anything above 60 starts to take a large mileage hit. I get 8-9 depending on wind at 65-70. The generator is great. It’s the reason I got the PowerBoost. It runs the entire trailer—both ACs—very efficiently. Better than my old Hondas.

That's actually roughly what my XLT is. I was in a hurry when I wrote that reply and accidentally subtracted 100lbs from my memory, lol.

Nice numbers. Unfortunately the '24+ PBs are 4x4 only so that hurts the payload a bit.

I have a ‘21 crew, 2wd, 302a, 7.2Kw with sliding rear window and the payload is 1,969. I just looked at a ‘25 identical to my truck but with 4x4 and it was at 1,663. I currently tow a 28 foot RV with approximately 1000 pound tongue, weight with a WDH with no problem. You just need to make sure you’re in tow haul and lock out the ninth and 10th gear.
