I’m looking a towing an old truck with a total wait of 8000lb including trailer. I wouldn’t worry too much over a short distance but this will be about 7-8hrs (700km or 430miles). Mostly flat with only minor hills through out.

This doable? My truck has max tow package.

Probably? Wouldn’t know for certain without a lot more details. The engine should have no issues pulling that load; whether your frame/suspension can handle the weight is a different question.

An 8000lb trailer would impart probably 800-1200 lbs of tongue weight onto the truck if set up properly using a weight distribution hitch. Is your payload large enough to carry that load, plus you, plus whatever other gear/modifications you’ve added to the truck?

There are other relevant numbers to consider (individual axle loads, for example), but payload is usually the critical factor with half-ton trucks.

158lb payload.
I don’t have a weight distribution hitch. Gotcha with the added weight.

but yeah the front of the vehicle is heavy being a diesel. So 60/40 split.

I’m leaning towards this being the upper limit even with a weight distribution hitch. So unlikely for me to be comfortable doing it.

thanks for the help.

I pulled approx 13 to 13.5k with my 2021 KR PB Max tow. Maxxd Equipment trailer and a JCB 1CXT 6 hours with no issues. Equlizer 14k distribution hitch and air lift bags on the truck. I also pull a 14k dump trailer frequently.
