My comments get to the actual condition of the oil. This can be measured by analysis. If you're running hard, towing a big load, on the turbos alot, the life will be shorter. If you're running light it'll be longer. You can measure that. Oddly, I use oil that advertises 25,000 mile intervals. My analysis results show less than that for life. I did every 3,000 miles on a family Suburban for years. Took a hint from the Navy oil analysis program on machinery and found the life could be extended. What I see on my F-150 PowerBoost is that even in "light use" (EG 1 or 2 adults, luggage in back & occasional medium towing load) the TBN and Boron deplete around 12-14,000 miles. In my view the "cheap insurance" idea just tosses good oil. I am doing progressive maintenance replacing components based on observed component life on that family Suburban (30 years & almost 600,000 miles). When you toss good oil you add to the environmental load out there. So, I don't expect everyone to do the analysis. If you're going to change oil, an interval of 5 or even 10,000 miles is reasonable on the 3.5L twin turbo unless you're doing alot of heavy towing. I'd be careful of that 25,000 mile advertised interval.
