So I placed an order for a 2024 KR Powerboost. While I wait many moons for this truck to appear in the late winter, I need to get my mod house in order. I have always been a guy who slaps oversized ATs on shortly after purchase (sometimes same day). I own land that isn't serious off-roading, but is more than I trust OEM Hankook AT2s with being able to handle. Currently running 285/65/20 KO2s on my 22 3.5L Eco. However, I dunno how aftermarket tire upgrades have affected hybrid performance with existing owners. I was just curious as to what PB owners who have gone with some nasty ATs have experienced and what recommendations you can make.
I put LT285/60 20 Nitto Recon Grapplers with Fuel Blitz 20x9 wheels +20 offset on my 22 Lariat PB with a 2” Roush Fox coil over kit on a few months ago and get between 19-20 mpg average I was getting about 21 mpg with the stock Goodyear AT tires. Great tires.

Those are some nice looking shoes! They have just enough offset to look aggressive but not over the top. The tires too. I’m still on my stock Hankook AT2’s at 38K. They have been great to me so far. But I’m not an off-roader so I prefer the highway biased tread on the Hankooks. My average mpg has been 22.3 over the past 30k miles which includes hauling to N. Dakota & back to N Texas and some hill country trailering. When just cruising around North DFW area for work I regularly get between 23-24 and occasionally 25.
I would try some slightly more aggressive tires but don’t want the noise and reduced mpg. BTW, mine’s a 21 XLT 4x4 Sport 302A PowerBoost highly loaded.

Thanks. I really do not go off road much just on the beach once or twice a year. I’m just like the look. The Nittos are not too noisy. The truck is very quiet to begin with and the tire noise is not a distraction. Good luck with your new PB.

Well, it's not new but still feels like it. I special ordered it Jan 18th, 2021 and picked it up only 2 months later, Mar 23rd. I was lucky to have gotten it just before the chip & parts shortages and massive order time wait. It's been running great for the past 2 1/2 years. ;)

I upgraded from the hankooks to toyo at3 285/60R20 which are P rated unlike the bigger toyos which are LT. They have been great to maintain same milage as the stock tires but have more tread for winter driving here in canada and mild off-roading in fields and logging roads for hunting and fishing

I would be interested in these so I just looked these up and the only P tire was a 285/55R20 with a 114 load rating vs. 115. Are you sure yours aren't 55's? The load rating is 70# less per tire. That doesn't sound like much difference, but with the PB being a heavy(er) truck I don't know if I'd go down any.

Congrats on the order, and hope your build comes early! I have a '22 PB 157 Lariat FX4 max tow which came with 275/65r18 Goodyear Territory A/T load range 116T. I have the FOX 2.0 level from the previous gen which comes with 650lb. springs which are a great match for the PB imho. At recommended cold psi I measured 3in. to the front well with the stock wheel/tire package and on a 36 mile commute with mixed driving I get 22mpg avg. Located in CA so the highest octane available is 91, which I have filled since taking delivery.

I wanted to maintain as much efficiency as possible with an upgrade so I landed on Nitto Recons. Just swapped the rolling stock out this past week with a set of 295/70r18 116S (and took it on a camping trip that included 16 miles of high clearance off highway trail). It now sits at 40in. to the well. I have not had the chance to calibrate to the new size. That said, I have observed a drop of 1-2mpg. Driving style is very conservative, showing anywhere from 97-98% efficiency on the hybrid sub menu. So that's the only negative aspect of the new combo, and to be expected. The aftermarket wheels are a +18 18x9in but 6lbs lighter which helps offset the heavier rubber. I estimate my net gain per wheel to be about 6.5 to 7lbs. Given the gearing with the max tow, I don't notice any performance penalties. What I do notice is the Recons have much better sidewall support (especially with rear axle stability while towing), greater traction in loose conditions, and a smoother ride. The last benefit I didn't expect given the aggressive looking tread. I had a rattle coming from the driver side A pillar driving over any surface that wasn't smooth. The rattle disappeared completely with the Recons. On the trails, at normal psi, they were great. I had about 1500lbs. of people and cargo. They handled loose gravel, rock, boulders, slabs, etc. with no cuts, tears, or other visible wear or damage to the sidewalls or tread. They did not pack up with gravel at all which was also interesting. I measured the stock tread depth after 10k and given my use case, I expect these Recons to last at least 2x if not 3x as long. Based on my experience so far, the Recons have easily met and exceeded my expectations for aesthetics, efficiency, performance and value.

I'm not an expert in tires and how to calculate load ( someone can correct me here) but my thought was the load rating for the 275/60R20 AT3 is 2679lbs/tire x 4 = 10,716

2021 XLT PB curb weight is about 5500lbs + payload of 1800= 7300lbs so if your at max payload you are still under max load for the tires.

I have hauled 2300lbs of brick in the back of the truck just a few km down the road from hardware store to my house without any issues.

I don't tow alot the odd boat or enclosed trailer when we moved our house so I don't need the durability of an LT tire or the added weight so these have really worked well for me.

I have about 40,000km on them I would still have about 10/32" tread depth rotating them every 5000 miles

I'm no expert either and I'm sure there is some safety margin built into the tires. Your calculations seem logical. Even with the weight distribution of say, 60% fwd bias, there should be enough margin remaining.

The one thing I noticed with my stock hankooks was the front tires were wearing on the outer edges with the recommended 35psi. I have been running 38 in the front and 36 in the back now and I haven't noticed that on the AT3 ( not sure if the psi change stopped it or if it was the tire) Would make sense that the heavier powerboost was causing more sag in the front end causing them to wear with less pressure in the tire.

That edge wear is definitely common on the AT2's. Mine are just under 40K miles and the edge has started to thin for the past couple thousand. the rest of the tread surface still looks about 40%. I estimate I can go another 10K on them and be safe. I may try a couple psi bump in the front and see if it slows the edge wear. I'm not disappointed since this is the first OEM tire I've had that's lasted this long and given me good traction and comfort.
I have a coworker with a Platinum PB and his front edges are worn much more than mine. I don't know what psi he's been running but his truck is a bit heavier than my XLT with auto running boards, glass roof, & electric everything... Plus he's a VP so he probably doesn't check the pressures! LOL!
