I have not heard this before though we have sure seen it in practice. So Ford only wants the AGM batteries to be topped at 80%? Every source I can find says that AGM batteries last longer if routinely maintained at 100% SOC between cycles. Why would Ford do this?
I've never understood why Ford, supposedly to extend the life of the batteries, has recommended the relatively low SOC. Whereas, the batteries in my travel trailer are always recommended to keep the SOC as high as possible and when they are drawn down to charge them back as soon as possible.

I just wanted to confirm on both of these:

1) Negative current for the HV battery means the HV battery is charging.
2) However for the 12V battery, positive current means it’s charging.

Does this sound correct?

Yes, that is how Ford does it.

thanks.

also, do you keep your OBDLink MX+ scanner plugged all the time or do you remove it after you are done? Will leaving it plugged in drain the battery?

I leave it plugged in. I think it turns off when the interior USB connections shut down.

Depends on what app and device you leave in the vehicle.

In the truck, I use OBDlink software with the MX+ and I leave the Android phone in the vehicle. And yes, every seems to shut down at some point and no battery drain issue.

In the Mach-E I use Carscanner app, which is strongly written to support the EV point of view of the Mach-E.
But if I don't disconnect the app from the MX+ and walk away from the vehicle for a few hours, I will get a FordPass notification of the Low Voltage battery being drained. I believe the app, if left connected via Bluetooth to the MX+, keeps both devices active. And the Mach-E AGM is a small H3 battery. So little headroom for software shenanigans. ?

Again, in the Powerboost I don't have to worry. I just shut the truck down and walk away. At some point shortly after shutting the truck down, the OBDlink app disconnects from the OBDlink MX adapter and everything goes to sleep.

Related question. I see the 2024MY now has ability to display engine oil temp as well. Anyone know if this is a new sensor or if this ability exists in the 21/22/23MY as well and just not displayed. Looking to see if anyone has found a PID for it. Would love to display in addition to coolant temp if it’s possible.

If I had to guess, it's an inferred value.
Lots of our temperature and pressure PIDs these days are inferred/calculated values.

For example, the cylinder head temperature sensor on the 3.5 Ecoboost is reportedly used to infer the exhaust temperature PID value.

Another is, I don't pretend to know exactly how the 3.5 Ecoboost oil pressure PID value is derived, but it's not from an actual pressure sensor anywhere on the engine.

Thanks. I was actually surprised how long the oil took to come up to engine temp and while driving there were times the engine temp actually went lower than the oil temp after doing a little coasting. Was hoping there might be someone who had found a means to display it thru MX+

I would love for someone to sniff out the PID equation for oil temperature.

There's a clever member here that sniffed out the oil pressure PID while monitoring the oil pressure PID in Forscan.

I suspect if Forscan has the oil temperature PID for the 3.5 Ecoboost, his technique would work.

If I understood the work flow for capturing those packets and deciphering them properly, I'd be all over it! But I get dyslexic just looking at hex. ??

Using Turbopilot’s Powerboost 2.0 it has lost all reports on PIDs except altitude and direction, which I think are just from the phone. What is blocking the reports coming through? The Bluetooth connection says it’s connected.

Mostly likely a BlueTooth problem. Delete the app and start all over with setup.

Working on PowerBoost 2.1. Minor changes. Added OAR and reformatted PPoB.

Any format issues when importing to Android? I wouldn’t mind giving it a try. I really like it !
