If the traction motor isn't functioning properly, the Hybrid battery can't be charged.
If the Hybrid battery can't function properly, there's no digital alternator to supply 12V to the truck.

You're not going far!

Unless it uses the BDS(G) to charge the battery which in turn provides 12V to the truck, but now I'm learning it is a DC generator in name only :(

The DC/DC could use the battery supply to turn on and control the BDSG without HV being present.

so if I can interject a question. if "a" battery is dead, what is the proper procedure for using a jump pack on a powerboost?

Seems pretty generic in the on-line owner's manual. ?‍♂

If it's the 12VDC system, the same as a normal vehicle car battery. If it's the HV DC battery, no idea.

Does this situation/scenario have anything to do with the vehicle occasionally not starting and leaving folks stranded between 1/2 hour and 1 hour until the vehicle finally starts…. as mentioned elsewhere in this forum? The messages that appear on the dash are “stop safely now“ and “full accessory power active”. Vehicle codes do not accurately reflect the problem and dealers do not seem to know what to do. I asked one of the service guys if the 12 V battery was somehow being drained, causing the non-start and lock up of the vehicle in “park”. He said no, but it sounds to me like the 12 V might be draining during operation, as suggested, in this thread, and when one attempts to restart the vehicle, the hybrid battery needs time to charge the 12 V battery to start the vehicle. Is that a possibility?

Keep your HVAC blower on setting 5 or higher to avoid having the truck consume your 12v batt during normal operation. (yes this is a real thing)

Thanks for this! The paddle board pump runs much faster when I turn the fan speed up!

Found an interesting twist to this issue of setting the blower to 5 or higher to get the 12 volt battery up to 100% SOC.

If you are sitting in the driver's seat and set the blower to 5 or higher, the voltage will rise to a temperature compensated range of 13.7 volts to 14.2 volts and over time the 12 volt battery will reach 100% SOC.

Now if you open the door and step out of the truck with the engine running and shut the door simultaneously with the "beep beep" of the horn the 12 volt battery voltage will fall to 12.7 volts. Get into the seat and shut the door and the volts will jump back to the 14 volt range.

You can't make this stuff up it is so stupid. What are they thinking?

Indeed, I have a longer variable post possibly in this thread. The keyfob must be in the truck and the driver's door closed. If those aren't met, 12v consumption begins. Remote start, 12v consumption begins. It really doesn't make any sense IMO, but hey, it works.

Missed that thread. I discovered this when I hooked up my PB to charge my Airstream. Set the blower to 6, confirmed the voltage at 14.2 with the SOC going up. Shut the door and left it alone for an hour charging the house batteries in trailer. I came back to the truck and looked at OBDLink only to find the voltage at 12.7 and the SOC had dropped by 5%.

So I guess the take away is anytime you want to use PPoB for an extended period you need to leave the key FOB in the truck with the blower at 5 or higher to avoid depleting the 12 volt battery.

well it won't deplete it, it will just go down to the 70-80% SOC range. If you have a trailer connected you really want that higher voltage if you're charging any type of batt on the trailer. Fortunately the truck is more than happy to lock with a keyfob in it. The MME doesn't like to lock if it's on or a PAAK phone is in it. You can leave the key in it and use the keypad, another fob, or fordpass to unlock it. The bottom 2 buttons on the keypad pressed together will lock any ford -- that logic has been present over 20 years now.
