I am not the OP on this thread about peeling paint , but I reported my truck with the same issue. I have an update, so I wanted to start a new thread.
Recap: 2021 Lariat, Space White, manufactured in KS, like all/most trucks reported in the other thread.
Found peeling paint in the roof's rain channel in April 2024, similar to the pics in the first post of other thread. It was only on the passenger's side originally but a few days before taking it to the body shop I found one spot on the driver's side as well.
Truck is still under warranty, 36 months will be in December and well below 36K miles, so I took it to the dealer's body shop in April, they submitted it to Ford who approved a repair under warranty.
Fast forward: I finally brought the truck to a dealer's body shop last Monday (9/9). Repair will be done under warranty as I mentioned, loaner provided.
When I brought the truck, they mentioned that the rear window might need to come off, but they'll try to do it without removing the window, just taping around (just what I need, fixing something that is ain't broken).
Another fast forward to this week: Truck would be ready Wednesday (today) or Thursday.
I called today to check on it and here's what's happening:
The truck left paint shop today before noon. As they were working on it to "rebuild" as he describes, it, while very gently removing the tape, the paint started peeling on the side cab corner, something with aperture panel. From what I understood, it's on the side panel that comes down from the roof. I am not sure if it's on the side of the truck or higher towards the roof.
He knows that I need the truck next week so he said he would prepare the truck for me (finish the repair, wash it, etc.), touch up the new peel, and when I get back from my trip I'll bring the truck back to take care of the new issue. This time however, not only the rear window will need to come off but also the bed. Not sure why, I'll probably understand better when he shows me tomorrow as I pick it up. I asked if they will paint the entire truck this time, he said Ford will only approve to paint what's peeling.
Not happy is an understatement, of course. No complains at all on the body shop. The manager is excellent, understanding and cooperative. My issue is with Ford. Clearly there is - or has been - some major fuck ups in the KS plant's paint shop.
Not that this would qualify under Lemon Law, but in my state Lemon is 12 months, so that would not be an option either way.
I am not worried about the repair; according to him, his repair will have lifetime warranty. I am concerned about other spots starting peeling the day after my warranty expires. Also, this peeling crap could potentially continue next time when they remove the tape again after painting the new damage, and it could go on and on.
I really love the truck, I take good care of it and was planning on keeping it until one of us reaches the end...Is there any course for buyback in this case due to lost value? Or any other remedies? I think I am going to call Ford to "start a case", to make sure it is noted prior to warranty expiration. If Ford would (significantly) extend the warranty on the paint, it would probably satisfy me.
