I am not the OP on this thread about peeling paint , but I reported my truck with the same issue. I have an update, so I wanted to start a new thread.

Recap: 2021 Lariat, Space White, manufactured in KS, like all/most trucks reported in the other thread.
Found peeling paint in the roof's rain channel in April 2024, similar to the pics in the first post of other thread. It was only on the passenger's side originally but a few days before taking it to the body shop I found one spot on the driver's side as well.
Truck is still under warranty, 36 months will be in December and well below 36K miles, so I took it to the dealer's body shop in April, they submitted it to Ford who approved a repair under warranty.

Fast forward: I finally brought the truck to a dealer's body shop last Monday (9/9). Repair will be done under warranty as I mentioned, loaner provided.
When I brought the truck, they mentioned that the rear window might need to come off, but they'll try to do it without removing the window, just taping around (just what I need, fixing something that is ain't broken).
Another fast forward to this week: Truck would be ready Wednesday (today) or Thursday.
I called today to check on it and here's what's happening:
The truck left paint shop today before noon. As they were working on it to "rebuild" as he describes, it, while very gently removing the tape, the paint started peeling on the side cab corner, something with aperture panel. From what I understood, it's on the side panel that comes down from the roof. I am not sure if it's on the side of the truck or higher towards the roof.
He knows that I need the truck next week so he said he would prepare the truck for me (finish the repair, wash it, etc.), touch up the new peel, and when I get back from my trip I'll bring the truck back to take care of the new issue. This time however, not only the rear window will need to come off but also the bed. Not sure why, I'll probably understand better when he shows me tomorrow as I pick it up. I asked if they will paint the entire truck this time, he said Ford will only approve to paint what's peeling.

Not happy is an understatement, of course. No complains at all on the body shop. The manager is excellent, understanding and cooperative. My issue is with Ford. Clearly there is - or has been - some major fuck ups in the KS plant's paint shop.
Not that this would qualify under Lemon Law, but in my state Lemon is 12 months, so that would not be an option either way.
I am not worried about the repair; according to him, his repair will have lifetime warranty. I am concerned about other spots starting peeling the day after my warranty expires. Also, this peeling crap could potentially continue next time when they remove the tape again after painting the new damage, and it could go on and on.
I really love the truck, I take good care of it and was planning on keeping it until one of us reaches the end...Is there any course for buyback in this case due to lost value? Or any other remedies? I think I am going to call Ford to "start a case", to make sure it is noted prior to warranty expiration. If Ford would (significantly) extend the warranty on the paint, it would probably satisfy me.

BTW, that sucks! I'd be afraid of any adhesive removing paint.

If I owned the truck, I'd get it fixed, and trade it in.

That’s the first thing I would do is call ford and get a case going. They might be able/willing to extend coverage for the paint issues. Never know. You don’t ask. You don’t get.

This is the original one on the passenger's side. The new peeling on the driver's side is in the same location and is much smaller.

That sucks -- Hope they get you made whole. Did you see any blistering that hadn't chipped?

I did not, but TBH I did not examine the paint too closely. And the paint on the rest of the truck (besides the roof) was in perfect condition, visually anyways.

Appears to look like they forgot to apply the paint sealer on the primer before applying the color. I think GM went through a long time period with their paint coming off hoods and roofs. I had an 88 Tarus that had a paint problem like this. Ford repainted it for free.

This is the new damage that started when they pulled the tape.

This is the aperture panel, circled in red. The green arrow points at the damage location.
Because part of it is hidden in front of the bed (Yellow), they will need to remove the bed in order to paint the entire panel.

"Side" problem is that Line-X sprayed the bed bolts, so they will need to cut the bolts (these are one time bolts, but that's the least of my problem) and then will need to re-spray the bed. I asked him why can't they spray just around the bolts, he said they'll spray the entire bed.

Also, the greenish color that we see in the peeled paint - that's the primer.

Appears to look like they forgot to apply the paint sealer on the primer before applying the color.
I asked him about this, he believes that the primer has a window in which the paint needs to be applied and they may have waited too long between primer and paint.

I'm the OP of that original thread. I'm glad the dealership is taking care of you!

**everyone needs to keep a close eye on their truck before thst 36/36 warranty**

I was looking at my rain channels and they're holding up after fixing it myself. But unfortunately now above the windshield I have more peeling paint (not rock chips). All I gotta say...is Ford FRICKEN SUCKS with their QC and fine details...absolute garbage QC and employees who don't give a crap.

But seriosly I hope they take care of you because it'll continue in other spots unless they stripped your whole roof and re-painted as one unit. You should pick up a paint meter (since it's under warranty) and see how thick the paint is on each panel of the truck and see if there's any differences between all panels and the roof. Any differences I would annotate and bring to body shop manager. These trucks are painted by precision machines and should all be equal on paint (unless it's been damaged/accident and re-painted).

Thanks Mike!
Didn't even know there was such thing as paint meter. I'll look into it, although I don't know anything about this matter so whatever the meter shows it won't mean anything to me (whether the reading is correct or not). I don't know if the reading on the hood, for example, should be identical to the roof, or fender, etc.
In any case, I will contact Ford to start a case on this before the 3/36 expires. I am certainly not happy about the entire situation, not just the peeling paint itself, but the fact that so much is involved now in repairing the new peel after removing the tape.

Even if we don't know the correct thickness of the paint you could still see if there are any irregularities within the paint. Someone that paints a vehicle by hand sprayer will def have irregularities vs a machine that sprays consistently. So if each panel is different or if the rest of the car is 8.2mils then the roof was 4.8mils you can bring that up as a QC issue to a case. Now what does Ford set their paint thickness at? Who knows...maybe someone here knows? But in the grand scheme of things I think it's the way it's being applied on the roof and preparation they're doing in the rain channels. Still sucks no one should be dealing with this for the amount of money Ford charges for these trucks.
