It's funny how I didn't really know or care what payload was until I started browsing here. I have a feeling many other people not involved in online truck forums are the same way.

Here's a couple fun times with my previous truck. Was I over payload? Maybe, I dunno. She be squattin' though, lol. The truck handled those loads perfectly fine though.

They just don't like building unicorns and cannabalizing the mighty 3/4 ton gravy train.
The only thing that keeps me in a 1/2 ton instead of ordering a 3/4 is that the F150 is under 6000lbs and can be driven on a parkway in NY. I want a bed in my truck, not a cap; so a reasonably equipped F250 can't be registered as a passenger vehicle.

Every truck I have owned has been on its bump stops at least once. Never an issue.

I'm old. I grew up in rural east Texas and I road in the bed of trucks, stood up in the front seat of cars (no seat belts or car seats back then) and I don't think there were yellow stickers on the door jamb?

I'm convinced my dad, grandpa, and neighbors were more aware than I was of whatever the intended limits of Payload might have been, but I am absolutely certain that they overloaded those trucks on many occasions. And admittedly, I think they broke stuff on occasion. ? (I remember lots of flat tire events in my childhood)

But these modern trucks are simply marvels. The fact 5 "fat" adult men can actually sit inside of one simultaneously? ??? Nobody could have imagined!
And the modern truck will still accelerate, brake, and the tires will hold air even if that 5th fatty took the Payload beyond the yellow sticker.
@Snakebitten .... I thought it was horse and buggy when you were young....

I'm am indeed old.
In fact I just got my first ever Social Security deposit. Creepy and cool at the same time.
But I do remember my dad's 1959(?) F100 when I was a tiny little fella. Probably not much past getting out of diapers.

Now dad definitely hitched some horses to wagons though before he had me. ?
