Am I going to regret not adding the panoramic sunroof to my order? My wife has one in her SUV and we never really use it. Any real world experience out there? Seams like it is mostly for passenger benefit. Not going to have passengers that often. How about for stereo sound quality? I went with the Unleashed system and someone mentioned that not having a sunroof it would sound better (different ceiling speaker placement maybe?) Thank you for you input and your help!

I like it and not sure how you would notice a difference in the stereo with a full metal roof. During the winter I've enjoyed opening up to let the sun in on cool days. It also opens up the cabin quite a bit and nice to be able to vent out hot air in the summer. I've heard the horror stories but not sure I would go without one, especially in such a large vehicle. I had a Mercedes with a full glass panoramic roof that I never used but it was a sedan, not huge like this truck is. In a large vehicle I think you would like it / use it more.

I was in a similar situation to yours, where wife has one but seems we rarely use it. I opted not to get it as it decreases payload by about 65lbs, obviously costs quite a bit of money, and just seems like another thing to fail. No idea if sound is impacted but I have no regrets.

I mean if you would not use it, why would you get it? Just another potential leak and maintenance point.

However, I got one in my 22 that I ordered and received a few weeks ago. Loving it so far. I will have an extended warranty to cover it though. I have an XLT with the lower B&O so I would not know on the unleashed speaker set up.

No.

Has "standard" moonroof in our sedans and I like it, for some reason I don't like the panoramic ones.
IMO the only reason to have it is if you ditch your car in the lake and need to escape from the highest point. Since I don't plan on ditching my truck, I did not order it ?
Also, with all the failures now days with chips missing and things break down, that's another item off of the list of possible headaches.
In all seriousness - too much light really bothers me so I either (used to) drive with it open - in the sedans) at night, or it would be completely closed.. When you leave the glass closed but the shade open it's noisier and also in the winter feels colder in the vehicle.

You know something else. As a man who is experiencing some male pattern baldness I easily get sunburnt on the top of my head. I would need to wear a hat if driving with it open in the summer.

I’m a hard no on a sunroof in a pickup. I have no use for one. It’s your truck buy what you want.

I have one in my 2019, I do like it. I have not used it as much after having a kid. Just worried about it shattering in an accident. also, I've noticed that when it's closed it seems to creak going over bumps and when off-road when the truck is "flexing" over uneven terrain. Like the rubber seal around it maybe? Maybe and isolated thing. I ended up not ordering it on my 2022. That's my 2 cents.

It may be different up north, but in Florida I want no part of a sunroof.

Im the opposite. I had one in two past trucks but not in my current lariat and I miss it. Besides, my bird dogs like to have another place to spot birds.

When I had a Silverado for two years, only opened the sunroof maybe four times in that span. It was either too hot or too cold outside. Or the heat would burn my head. The cover would rattle too. Our dogs ride in crates in our minivan, hah! :)

I had one on a Subaru Forester and regretted it. I spent most of the time with the shade closed. I found the giant sunroof let in too much light, making it harder to see and also made the cabin warmer (in California). My wife has one in her Rav4 and I shut it whenever I have to drive/ride in that thing because it's always too warm - dark blue car plus black pleather seats plus sunroof = greenhouse. Both those vehicles were dark though... my F-150 will be white with vented seats, no sunroof.

This all personal preference I think. Personally, I love the sunroof. I have the shade open pretty much all of the time and have the sunroof open in the summer most of the time. I think the cabin seems dark when the shade is closed. I am a Jeep guy and run topless or doorless when possible. Others have brought up good reasons to not get it. I would always opt for it.

Here’s my story on this….

I had one on my 2015 and had to replace both motors and the track. The only place you can the assembly was the dealer and set me back around $3300 installed. I dropped it off around 9am, they said it would be done after lunch. I inquired about the short timeframe and the tech said at one point he was doing a couple a week. I think he said they got 5-6 hours for it. He said he had it down to a science since they “broke all the time”. The parts was around 2800-2900 from what I remember, and go figure they had it “in stock”. It sucked, but I had to get to work and the entire thing was stuck open, and was scheduled to rain all week… another place said they could get it in, but would be 2-4 weeks (and was like 600 bucks cheaper).

Now the new ones might be better, but every sunroof I have had in a car over 5 years has had some kind of issues. Now maybe the newer ones are better, and they probably are, but I also bet they are even more to replace!

Another note, the “fabric” screen eventually stretches because the thing is so big. It also gets off line a little side to side. After 3-4 years it got bouncy on mine, which was super annoying.

So my advice is …, No a new STX, I don’t miss that sunroof one bit. Even after it was fixed, I was scared to open it even with the dealer 2 year warranty.
