I've had my 21 since new and recognized that it was stuck in January of 2022 the sync version was grayed out like yours was. The dealership had it for a month and couldn't fix it, sync 4 was very new back then. I found this forum and with help, I fully updated the truck myself, at that point i had no choice but to purchase a mongoose cable. When I started the thread i linked you was on page 5 the FDRS thread is now over 1000 pages from people who updated there trucks themselves. No other cable than the mongoose will work. There is a loaner list you can get on and you will eventually get use of a cable as a loaner, there are also people here selling the ones they used you have to look around. I see it as a tool that's needed to repair my truck and Ive updated other trucks using it so it lives it my tool box. It really isn't difficult to do the updates, It just requires your time and undivided attention while doing so.
Quick question, so the mongoose cable is not the same as a FORScan cable like this one?

I was in a similar boat and I actually had to have a member here craft an update because of how far behind we were. @Jesse-Infotainment is a great resource to help you with this. My advice is buy a mongoose cable from Amazon (30 day return window), and a frds license for a week. Return the cable once you’re up to date.

Thats great advice...NOT!!! People like you that buy things and use them and then Return them are the reason that people end up with used shit when they try to buy something new. I personally would like to see your Amazon account shut down for some classless bullshit like this!! You should be ashamed of your self and not be so Cheap.

I just want access to the full screen Android auto.
If you had a better description than "United States" for your location, someone in your area might be willing to help out.

I was one of the first in SE Michigan to successfully update a 2021 Job 1 truck to enable BlueCruise (using FDRS, Mongoose, FORScan, and an OBDLink MX adapter), and have used both many other times to update for other things, including enabling full screen Android Auto long, long ago (before it was officially released).

I also use it on my 2024 Dark Horse.

How about sell it to someone else for a few bucks less than what you paid or maybe loan it out instead of screwing OPUS (the company who developed it) by returning it? I doubt you would like it if whatever product or service your company produced/provided was used & returned. A good friend of mine worked there for over 20 years.

I've actually used the Mongoose several times, not just once. That's why I've been running Bluecruise 1.4 for half a year.

I am catching on….slowly but surely, definitely will take me a bit longer but I will get there gosh darnit. As far as the post above about using an item to just return it….not my cup of beer. I am actually going to return the cable(which I haven’t even opened yet) to purchase the mongoose cable since I now have that knowledge. Thank u and many others (u know who you are) for the knowledge and know how for me to better understand ?❤?

@DrivinTheTruck - I have the wireless version of the cable you have. I use it for all my FORScan edits on my truck and cars. I've never used the Mongoose for FORScan, but I do know it's not on the FORScan approved dongle list. You may want to keep it - you WILL be making edits with FORScan, that I can assure you!

I took a look at this VCI on the manufacturer’s website. Very interesting. Four questions: (1) have you tested it yourself and, if so; (2) does it work in FDRS simply by selecting VCM3 directly in the VCI Manager (no weird drivers/patches or emulations modes); (3) is it as fast as the OEM Rotunda VCM3 (or at least faster than the Mongoose, which is comparable to the VCM II); and (4) have you confirmed no as-built data corruptions like we saw with the VCX Nano?

If this thing checks out (and at $170, I remain a little skeptical), it could break the Mongoose monopoly as the low-cost leader.
