This is about my recent experience with ordering from Ford Parts online (Accessories, Parts, Ford Performance, etc are all essentially the same). I was trying to take advantage of a 20% code I had for Ford Parts and purchased the Ford Performance Lowering Kit and the Aero Shield Delete for my 2024 XLT. Order completed successfully and I waited for a shipping update. Apparently, they provide zero order updates nor tracking information for shipments. The Aero Shield Delete kit arrived within two days which surprised me. I noticed on the packing list that the Lowering Kit was in fact "backordered". There was ZERO acknowledgement or flag about the lower kit being "backordered" anywhere on the website nor on my order confirmation. I called them this morning to get some more information. The guy I spoke with was cordial and professional, but... The call was useless and reiterated why I will look elsewhere in the future.

First, when you call into Ford Parts, they have zero visibility into the parts status. He told me that I need to contact a local "parts dealer" since they able to see status/updates, but he couldn't. Seriously?!

Second, once the order is in process, they can't cancel the order despite a partial ship and partial billing. I checked my account and they charged me individually for the Aero Shield Delete + $19 in shipping for a <1 lbs item in a box 10x larger than it needed to be. What?!

Lastly, if an item on an order is backordered for 30 days after the purchase date, the remaining parts will then automatically cancel. But they can't cancel the order prior. It's stupid!

It's 2024, not 2004. These requests seemed like pretty simple asks for a company selling products online in 2024, but they were worthless.

I called my closest "parts dealer" and the guy laughed and confirmed Ford Parts online is terrible and I should definitely work through local parts dealers in the future because they'll give you straight answers on availability and shipment status. He was able to confirm that the Ford Performance Lowering Kit has an "unknown backorder" listed and there's basically zero chance I'll see it anytime soon. I searched online and saw that Steeda had it in stock. I called Steeda on the phone just to make sure they did have it in stock and I managed to snag the last one on the shelf (spoke to John on the phone, great experience). It was a bit more expensive. Instead of $475 ($600 + 20% off) it cost me $549 at Steeda (current sale price), but I'll have the parts delivered in a week as opposed to NEVER. Also, Steeda offers free shipping over a certain amount which offset the difference a bit less.

I don't know if others have had a similar experience or not, but I wanted to let others know about my experience with Ford Parts online. I will absolutely avoid them in the future if I can find the parts elsewhere or just contact my local parts dealer directly.

Hah, I ordered the same lowering kit during the July 4th sale with the same lack of updates - all I see is they renew the pending transaction on my credit card each week. Ford has yet to build my truck so I wasn't overly concerned - I figured it would either show or it wouldn't. If the 30 day automatic cancellation is correct, then they should cancel the order tomorrow (I was wondering if they would eventually cancel, I had assumed it was some type of backorder since they hadn't fulfilled the order).

Yeah, given the entire experience, I'll take the guys feedback with a grain of salt. He then said, if it does happen to come in, you can just return the parts to your closest "parts dealer". I guess you can provide an update on the cancellation in the next few days. ?

I just picked up some parts today, and the guy at the parts desk was telling me just how much he hated the system. He said it’s a horrible interface in their end when trying to simply mark the part as picked up by the customer. He thinks that if we saw the mess they went through, we probably wouldn’t use the site just out of empathy.

Worth noting, since that is all done through some distributor network, returns are not handled by the dealer you return it to. He’s had customers that had to wait up to 90 days before getting their refund.

I ordered a bed cover from them a week ago. Zero updates. I've called in 3x. They said they are escalating the issue to get it shipped. I would have bought at the dealer if I had known this. I also took advantage of the discount. The dealer said it would be there in 2 days. I figured why not just have it shipped to my house. Big mistake evidently.

The real problem with Ford is that it's very difficult to access any type of actual detailed parts diagram.

@LevittownFordParts is where you should be shopping. They are a member here and take good care of forum members
Thanks. I'll keep them in mind in the future. Do they do their own order tracking and such? Or are they still beholden to the Ford Parts process and depots?

I'm unsure of the logistics, but when Benny responds after being tagged here, you can ask.

Clearly doing it wrong... This is my first Ford in almost 20 years. I assumed their online parts site would have been updated in that time. I was wrong. I will gladly contact the local "parts dealer" next time. Sadly, the closest "parts dealer" is 20 miles away which equates to 30-60 minutes in Northern Virginia time, but the when I called, the guy seemed cool and we had a few laughs at Ford Part's expense.

The fun part of using Ford parts website is your local dealer will never know you ordered the part and it will just sit there. They never call to ask anyone about it they just have parts sitting around for no reason. It is a joke and they even told me that they have to jump through hoops to even see part orders from there.

This is only for Ford parts website.
Accessory website works fine, goes to the retail side of dealer and they just call me to come get my stuff.

+1 for @LevittownFordParts! Ordered from Ford’s site with my new vehicle points. First time, crickets for two weeks. They elevated the issue, thought “ok, good, getting somewhere”. 5 minutes later got a cancellation email for my FP fender vents that were shown in stock. Re-ordered them again, with the black tailgate decals. Got the decals in 2-3 days. Again, crickets on the fender vents. Called today and they said the order is finished and “awaiting shipping info.”
The price of “free” I guess….

The issue, apparently, is that Ford support team cannot see live inventory, so they’re really not in a position to help.

if I get them for free eventually, great. In the meantime, I ordered the vents from Levitown. They were back ordered but team is responsive and clear. Even got an email update from them over the weekend. ??

Methinks this is a problem at the dealer .... the two times I ordered from FordParts with free delivery to dealer and 'pay when picked-up' (short U-bolts for rear axle and another item at a different time) I did nothing to advise my dealer of the online order, but the parts department called me the day the parts arrived. And, when I pointed it out, they honored the online price which was lower than what they charge when ordered over-the-counter.

YMMV
