Order cancellation question

If a special order is cancelled by the customer after a build date is assigned but before the truck is assembled (over a month before), is the dealer not supposed to cancel the order with Ford or can they continue the order under the persons name? Inquiring minds want to know...

Once a VIN is issued, the truck will get built. If you don't want the truck, the dealer will sell it on the lot to someone else. The truck can deliver to the dealer and you can still walk away. In these times with such short supply, dealers would probably be happy with people cancelling their orders. That is unless you ordered some weird unicorn of options like a regular cab short bed XL 2wd.

Thanks for the info.. I thought once the consumer cancelled the dealer had to switch the order to a dealer stock order at least..

Naw.. not a full blown unicorn.. it was a regular cab short bed XL 4WD

I almost did a special order last Summer. Glad I didn't do a special order because I wanted a truck before I retired. The dealer told me that I had to give them a deposit and said the delivery could take many many months. They told me that if I cancelled my order that I could only get the deposit back after they received and sold the truck I ordered. Waiting potentially many many months to get my deposit back was a red flag no-go. The better choice for me was to go anywhere in the USA where ever I could find a truck on a lot that I liked at the price I would be willing to pay.
