I’m used to Toyota trucks where you have remove skid plates and clean the oil filter canister because they use an filter element. Oil also drips everywhere like the steering rack so I have to spend extra time cleaning.

With my F-150 I just did the 2nd oil change myself and it was extremely easy. No need to remove any skid plates. The oil filter area has a catch tray which drains oil thru a hole in the skid plate. I just spray down the catch tray with brake cleaner and no need for any additional cleaning. It uses a regular oil filter so no need to clean any canisters.

I’ve had GM v8s.
drain plug and filter right next to each other. No sway bar, no pans, nothing.

can go under once to pull plug and filter and then back in to replace and done. The filter is upright so you can pre fill. Very possible to not drip a drop.

The 2.7 with the top filter is nice.

The 3.5s filter placement is miserable. On my 2020 it was bad, on my 2023 it is in the same spot but there is more other stuff in the way now, so it's even worse.

No experience with the 5.0.

it is, it’s also easier if you install a Volvo Max oil drain. I can do an oil change and use one shop towel.

it certainly is buried in there a little bit, but I’ve had zero issues with it. I can get on it with a filter wrench & ratchet, no other tools.

I change my own oil, don't trust the dealership.
Any issues with the warranty, changing your own oil ?

Did my first change (PB 3.5L) about a week ago, and it was generally painless.
Fumoto F107N drain valve installed, so the next change will be even easier.
Motivx MX2374 oil filter wrench was a treat for gripping the original filter. Not required, but I chose to use a swivel-head ratchet. Lots of threads with lots of clever tools for this step.

My only issues were being sloppy. First, underestimating how far the oil would shoot out after removing the drain plug (solved with Fumoto). Second, forgetting that the oil filter drain tray will send oil in the opposite direction of what I anticipate.

Generally, no issue. The onus is on Ford to demonstrate that an issue was caused by your use of improper materials or technique.

The ability to document DIY maintenance in the service history is a nice touch.

This is the first vehicle I felt I needed a filter socket for. With that, it isn't too bad. Without, I had a hard time getting leverage to remove the filter.

The 2.7 and 5.0 oil changes are relatively easy, but nothing compares to oil changes in a jeep wrangler with the 3.6 filter is on top like the 2.7 and no sway bars or skid plates to deal with

5.0 is easy. There is a built in plastic funnel for the oil filter so oil doesn't get everywhere.

Yeah it looks bad. However when I did the actual job it was surprisingly easy. I used a Lisle 61570 cap wrench with a wobble extension to loosen the oil filter. After I removed the oil filter from the mount, I tilted it to drain most of the oil into the catch tray before fully removing from underneath without dripping any oil on anything.
