Aren’t OEM tires usually shaved down from what you’d get off the rack? Honda does that, the tires you get on a new pilot have significantly less tread depth than the same make ones you’d get from a tire shop.

I have the Pirelli 20s and they still look good at 11k miles, anyone with a newer truck that can take a reading on the tread depth to confirm what they come as from the factory?
Not on fords. Those games wouldn't fly. With the 20s at least, they're SL labeled XL tires. Both the pirellis and hankook at least, and likely others. Of all things since the rolly explorers ford doesn't overlook is tires.
lol I think you guys took my post a bit to seriously, it was tongue in cheek to hamma. Education is largely worthless anyway, if there is one thing I wasted in life, it was spending money and giving it to a University for a piece of paper. I’d burn my degree at a bonfire for fun.

You are absolutely correct, it’s a matter of preference :champagne:, and nobody is better than the next guy.
If we took your posts seriously we'd have to believe you're cultist that worships the coyote engine.

I had the Hankooks on my 2020 and they were toast before 30k.

My 2023 also has them, we'll see how it goes.

Swapping them out as soon as I get the truck is something I've been mulling over. I don't like Hankook's, never have. Nothing against them, I just think there are WAY better tires out there, and nothing is more important on a vehicle than good tires, besides good brakes.

I'm going to let it ride out. I run dedicated snow tires in the winter, so I'm not depending on the Hankooks when traction is the biggest issue.

Last time, I got Michelin LTX M/S tires when the Hankooks were toast. I may do the same thing this time around, but I'll probably get two summers out of the Hankooks.

I'm usually a snow tire guy myself, and this was my exact train of thought as well.

I have new take offs of the factory HKAT2 in my barn, less than 50 miles.
Center tread measures at 11/32nds
Outer shoulder is 7/32nds
Tire rack lists 10.5/32nds.

The factory dynoproAT2 is a poorly chosen highway tire at best.

By comparison a Falken AT4W tread depth is 18/32nds edge and center.

Although others have mentioned alignment, outer edge wear is typically from hard cornering. The added 700# of a power boost will increase tire wear combined with hard cornering. One thing not often discussed with EV/Hybrids is rapid tire wear due to heavy weight.

I have the factory Goodyear Wranglers and they’re rotated every oil change @ 5000mi and I keep them at 40psi. I have 21000mi on the truck so far and they seem to be wearing nicely. My only gripe is I’ve hydroplaned several times on the highway which has never been an issue before with good tires on any of my previous vehicles. I’ll be switching out to Nitto Recon Grapplers soon but it doesn’t rain to much in South Texas so I’m not in a rush.

I replaced my Hancooks at 24k due to the upcoming winter. Of course it didn't snow but their performance on wet roads left much to be desired.

Now running Michelin Defender LTX MS2s

How are the LTX's working in the wet for you? Perhaps they upgraded the silica level in their tires. I've run Michelins on my motorcycles and they work great but my 2018 STX had the LTX's and they were poor in wet weather with low grip and hydroplaned more than I liked. The Hankook's on my 2021 XLT have had better grip and been more resistant to hydroplaning until recently where the tread depth has finally gotten thin.
Not trying to poo-poo the Michelins but every time I've tried an LTX over the years (1995 through 2018) I've always come out dissapointed. Only one tire that I ran on a Honda Oddysey was great in the rain but I can't recall what it was and it's discontinued anyway.

My stock Hankooks look exactly the same. I’ve had the truck aligned twice in the 27k miles I’ve put on it and rotate every 5k. Tires are almost gone on the edges.

I am convinced that new vehicle tires are softer than aftermarket tires toward promoting customer satisfaction regarding comfort and performance, etc. Thus, they wear more quickly. This has been my experience with every new vehicle I’ve ever purchased, including my 2023 F150 Power Boost. However, with regard to this thread, there definitely looks to be some alignment issues.

I would agree with what others have stated here about oem spec tires being purpose made for new trucks and to a price point. They are not built necessarily for longevity, but rather to achieve a quiet ride And not get the manufacturer any complaints about noise and harshness.

The stock Michelin primacy XC tires that came on my 21 rode great, but they were pretty poor with winter traction. And then at 30k miles, they were completely done….worn evenly, but to the wear bars. There’s a reason why Michelin doesn’t honor a treadwear warranty on oem tires, even though you can buy these tires new off the shelf which do come with a treadwear warranty.

I replaced with Firestone destination LE3 (highway tires) and have been pleased with them all around. Smooth, quiet, decent winter performance for an all season, and they seem to be wearing a reasonable amount over the last 10k miles.
