So after searching multiple threads across all the different F-150 forums I decided to permanently mount a NOCO Genius 10x1 Pro charger under the hood of my 2022 Platinum with the 3.5L Ecoboost non-hybrid. I installed it with the positive directly to the battery terminal and the negative to the load side of the BMS connection on the battery per all the instructions posted on all the forums so that the truck would know the SOC. My battery was replaced by Ford under warranty about 18 months ago and I've noticed lately that it's been going into sleep mode so I decided to install a charger as I travel a lot for work so there are times my truck will sit for a month or so without being started. This is the first weekend I've had the charger installed and after checking it periodically throughout the weekend it never seems to go above the 25% charged light on the charger. The truck has never sounded like it has issues starting nor has it acted like there have been any battery issues outside of it going to deep sleep mode after not driving it for a bit. The battery the dealer installed is a Motorcraft H6. Would the battery have gone that weak in such a short time? I know they are supposed to be smart chargers but with it just sitting on the 25% SOC lights flashing all weekend I am not sure if I feel comfortable leaving the charger hooked up the next time I have to take an extended work trip. Just curious if anyone else here has had any similar experiences. I hate to go spend the money on a new battery if it's not really an issue and I know from searching other forums that the Platinum had the H7 as the recommended battery size so when I do purchase one I am going to up in size. Also I bought the truck used and I noticed it doesn't have the insulation wrap around the battery but the dealer didn't say anything about that one way or another.

You did set the charger to the agm setting and there are no errors? The errors are listed in the manual.

As for if the battery could be bad yes it's possible. I would start by getting it tested with both the electronic style and load tester. Most autopart stores will do this for free. If your battery needs to be replaced I would get at least an h7 or better yet an h8 and not ford branded.

Got an OBDLink or similar to measure SOC as reported from the OBD port?

1. It can take many (many) hours for a NOCO 10 to advance a sorely depleted battery

2. Every time you open the door & hood to look at the charger lights, your vehicle systems activate & hit the already low battery yet again

3. IF you have an unexpected parasitic drain, that's working against you. Make sure nothing is plugged into any vehicle power ports.

Barring the last, it may take patience and many un-interrupted hours (like 24 hours +) may be required to show meaningful progress with your low battery and a NOCO 10. After it's up to a high SOC, regular use of the charger should go somewhat quicker.

It is set on the AGM setting and as far as I can tell there are no errors.

I don't but I need to look into one, I don't think there is any parasitic drain because I've had no issues other than it sitting for a long time and going into the deep sleep mode. I don't leave anything plugged into the truck when I am not in it.

Also will the H8 fit without having to do any modification to the battery tray?

I picked up an H8 battery from Costco, and it dropped right into my 2021 with no issues/modifcations at all.

Non powerboost will fit an h8 no problems according to the many battery threads on this forum.

No errors then let it charge without checking anything. There is a possibility that by you checking the the charger, and waking up the truck, it could reset the charger back to its starting point hence the 25% light everytime you check it. If you have a way to checknthe lights without waking the truck up (leave the hood open) try that.

Sounds good, I will have to give that a try. I did notice when I put my fluke on the battery without the charger the voltage dropped down to around 12.33VDC and with it on the charger it's between 12.76-13VDC. I appreciate all the responses thus far.

Yes, except PB as already noted.

Suggestions if you decide to get an H8 battery
  • Look closely at Walmart Everstart Platinum, 48-month full replacement warranty (not pro-rated) and stores everywhere IF you happen to have a problem while on the road.
Ford F-150 NOCO Genius 10x1 Battery Charger Confusion 04

  • Get whatever replacement and put it on the NOCO out of the truck for however long it takes to show 100% charge (last green light solid with NO pulsing); then swap the batteries and take your old one in for the core refund.
  • Don't forget to reset the battery sensor per the instructions in your owners manual:

If you want the insulation wrap intended to fit an H8, it's Ford PN KL3Z-10A687-C; you may get your H7 wrap to stretch / fit.

Great advice, especially for those of us that are really new to these “new fangled” F 150’s 🤔😁

I have a 2023 5.0 and a Noco Genius2 (uninstalled), and a stock battery. Whenever it gets super cold here, and I haven’t driving the truck in a while, it will go into the battery saving mode. Once I connect it to the Noco, the next day it’s in maintenance/fully topped off mode.

I’m a little curious why folks are permanently attaching them. I have several of the charges (for motorcycles mainly) and I’m not tracking what the real benefit is. I would think 100% of the time I would use one, would be in my own garage, where I can easily plug in and attach in about 4min.

Its just a little nicety but not at all necessary.

You can leave the hood down and just plug the truck in, same as if to an engine block heater.

I have several different chargers, in 2 different places, for various jobs. Since the truck is the highest demand, it just made sense to give it it's own.

I am changing the power port/cigarette lighter to stay hot all the time. Then adding a solar charger, plugging that into power port. Put the solar panel on dash and in. Charges all day. Hope that it helps
