A few different threads have covered a lot of information regarding permanently installed trickle chargers.

Make sure that the negative lead is on top of the BMS (Battery Monitory System), not directly installed on the negative battery pole.

Also, depending on the the capacity of the battery being charged, it might take a few days before the green light goes solid green (not flashing).

Living in a winter cold region, I installed 2 male/female Noco plug adapters permanently on the plastic part below the right and left headlights (below the head lights and on top of the metal bumper). This plastic part is easily removable (two small bolts inside both front wheel wells, then unclip at clipping points). I drilled a 2 inch hole on either side of the plastic piece (their is a section where their is more space "below the headlights"). With this setup, I can plug in an extension cord for the charger (on the right side "passenger side" of the truck) or the engine block heater (on the left side "driver side" of the truck) without having dangling wires from the truck. Other benefit is I have access to the charging function even on the road, away from home.

Nice setup. I was tired of popping the hood and did something similar with the noco adapter, went to the rear wheel well liner, just have to remember to unplug before I hit the road.

You can also leave it attached. I do it with mine. Leaving it attached was the only way the most recent update would install OTA for me.
+1 on leaving it attached.
My NOCO 5 is attached with ring terminals to the battery and gets plugged in every single day.

Well this Noco Genius 10 charger looks like a nice little unit. I charged my battery (quickly) and now it has been pulsing green. The instructions are basically garbage but youtube has a few halfway decent vids about it.

I was able to find out that once the battery is charged it will pulse green. This is some kind of "optimization" of the battery, but it is fully charged. Can anyone that uses these tell me:

1 - How long the optimization typically runs for?
2 - If taking the charger off before it stops pulsing (optimizing) does it affect anything.

Thanks for any replies.
Actually the optimization process time depends on the size of the battery and also on the sulfation level on the batteries anodes and cathodes. So no precise answer can be given, but it takes a while (might take a few days).

No harm done if unplugging in optimization step. But I would suggest to have once in a while a full charge with optimization step complete. Optimization will help to desulfate the battery (bringing down the internal battery resistance) hence a better battery performance.

I hope this helps you.

You must live in a warm climate place. Where I live, the wheel wells get packed by snow and ice in the winter time, making accessing a plug in the wheel wells almost impossible ?.

Definitely warmer than your location.. not as much snow here in south Jersey and this is the front of the wheel well so works well for me

Great explanation. Thanks.

To all our friends from the north, my apologies in advance for the next 4 years. :(
