Re the engine cover and the so called, diaper ...

Is it possible that they serve as cooling air ducts, or at least that was the original intent?

Apparently, not enough to justify keeping the engine cover but the felt pan, cost them money and hassle for there to be no reason. Maybe as a splash guard for electronics?

Reason I ask, is that I mess around with old tractors and the change to aluminum engines, also brought engine shields that serve as cooling ducts.
I don't think a piece of plastic/Styrofoam just sitting on top of the block would cool anything. If anything, it would probably have the opposite effect.

I doubt the engine cover did much for cooling. It's mainly for aesthetics and maybe noise attenuation. The diaper could have a small effect on mpg since it flattens out the underside of the truck aerodynamically.

I took the engine cover off my 2011 soon after buying it and the truck didn't seem to change one bit. Still had the original diaper after 13 years somehow. It was good for keeping oil from dripping on the ground after changes, lol.

I'll admit that the engine cover probably does muffle the HPFP clatter to some degree.
And the diaper might even inhibit some measure of road noise as well.

But even the Manufacturer excludes both items at different times and different trims. So removing them shouldn't be much of a controversy.

I will say that seeing one being gnawed on by rodents would probably have me keeping it there. Please eat my engine cover if you are snooping around under the hood looking for a meal

I don’t have an engine cover on my 2025… but the battery is an h7 and not the shitty h6 my 2022 came with.

my wife’s 2024 vw atlas has a recall for the engine cover , I guess if you are in for an oil change and they install the cover wrong it can start a fire, the solution … take the engine cover off and throw it away…

Engine covers are redundant IMO. You already have a large metal cover over the engine to begin with, the hood.

Then again, I'm a logical and pragmatic person so a lot of the stuff consumers want boggles my mind. Don't get me started on crossovers, lol.
Wait a sec. What's your problem with crossovers?

They are just tall cars marketed as "SUVs" with all the disadvantages and none of the advantages of either one. Unfortunately most consumers think big car = safer so that's why there are very few sedans and hatchbacks available from American manufacturers anymore.

I don't care what they might have decided to call my Mach-E. But it's never even hinted at being an SUV.

If it was built in the 60-80's, my dad might have called it a little station wagon. And I would have to agree with him.

Weird flex but ok. They aren't marketed as SUVs. They're marketed as crossovers. They're perfect for getting around town for many people and the AWD and little extra height make them more useful in crappy conditions such as snow and they allow people to haul bigger things than a regular car will.. They seem like perfectly useful vehicles for many people and it seems many people agree. You can still by a sedan from any car manufacturer. Were you looking for something like a 1972 Plymouth Fury or something? Those days are long gone.

There must be something the mice like about those covers. Mine has gotten a bit chewed as well.
Yeah, in my quest to figure out why Ford stopped including these on newer models, I’ve come across quite a few reports of rodents chewing them up. Odd quirk, but definitely seems to be a known issue. Maybe Ford got enough complaints that they just stopped putting them on. Total guess on my part, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

The foam is interesting too. I never pulled the cover off my 2017 Ecoboost, but I could’ve sworn it was plastic.

I just watched a video on adding a catch-can on an F-150 and the first step was removing the engine cover. My 2024 Powerboost doesn't have an engine cover. Is that something they got rid of?
Yea they quit putting them on for some reason. I made them put one on before i drove it off the lot. I ended up paying for it. about 85.00
