I never knew that my 2021 Powerboost had an engine cover. Now I know.

Guess we are never too old to learn.

Engine covers are redundant IMO. You already have a large metal cover over the engine to begin with, the hood.

Then again, I'm a logical and pragmatic person so a lot of the stuff consumers want boggles my mind. Don't get me started on crossovers, lol.
They're there to scare people away and into their dealership to do even the most basic of maintenence.

Have you never popped the hood in 4 years?

so you’ve never checked the in four years? You’ve never checked any coolant? You’ve never added windshield washer solvent?

It is possible to lift the hood and not look for or notice something. I've spent a lot of time with the hood up on my various trucks and still sometimes notice (take note) something I hadn't previously.

By the way, removed the engine cover on my 2022 Powerboost shortly after acquiring. It, along with the diaper underneath are both somewhere on a shelf in the barn.

I let the local garages check for me. They are quick to tell me that the truck needs something. I’m quicker to tell them no.

Seriously, the coolant has never been low. And I just had the coolant flushed. Looked kind of nasty after 75,000 miles.

Used to get new vehicle every couple of years for the new tech and not worry about maintenance. Especially when my shade tree lost it leaves about the time bell bottoms went out of style, the first time.

I’ve been really lucky with this 2021 truck. Have only needed tires and a battery (no surprise there.) Got this job 1 truck locked out of IPMA fixed with just software. Just did FDRS updates to Blue Cruise without a single error message.

Our 21 has been great as well. I will say, if it weren't for this forum and the knowledge sharing, would have been to the dealer a frustrating amount of times. Mongoose adapter wasn't cheap but your time avoiding dealership trips is far more valuable.

I got $50 US pre tariff for mine. (I don't have a barn)

Re the engine cover and the so called, diaper ...

Is it possible that they serve as cooling air ducts, or at least that was the original intent?

Apparently, not enough to justify keeping the engine cover but the felt pan, cost them money and hassle for there to be no reason. Maybe as a splash guard for electronics?

Reason I ask, is that I mess around with old tractors and the change to aluminum engines, also brought engine shields that serve as cooling ducts.
