Ah yes, that sounds right. So this tells us they have no idea how to permanently fix this yet.
Guess not. I'm just waiting to hear the death rattle coming from the rear axle bolt. ?

I am so stoked to hear this. I went to Tracy Ford and have been looking to try another service center. Over the hill I go! Thank you for sharing the positive experience.

My truck was in the shop yesterday (in Tracy), they said they inspected my axle bolts and it passed. I thought this was a must replace type of recall and we are waiting for the actual fix? They said, nope pass or fail. The two times I was in there prior they said they are waiting for parts.

Any idea the current status of this recall?

The status is unchanged since the supplemental update of May 24, 2024. In a nutshell:
  • If, and only if, inspection reveals a loose or broken bolt, the vehicle is eligible to have the interim service (replacement of hub & axle shaft) on both sides; recall remains 'open' for that VIN and this can be done as many times as it occurs.
  • Ford's forecast for the 'permanent remedy' availability is First Quarter 2025
If / when any there's any official notice of changes to the above that will surely be posted here with supporting documentation promptly, just subscribe to the thread and follow the posts.

Anything posted that lacks attached supporting documentation under Ford Corporate (not dealer) or NHTSA letterhead should be taken with a large dose of salt, IMO. Speculative rumors will no doubt continue (it's an internet forum, after all) and dealers will continue to spout misinformation to uninformed consumers for whatever reasons, be they ignorant, malicious, or otherwise.

Okay, that is good to hear, the tech told me otherwise. I like to get outside confirmation.

I would love to get a rear Max Tow axle once they aren't falling apart on their own.

Sweet, I hope you have a good experience there too.

No updates on the recall that I've seen yet.

The pass/fail test is: Is bolt intact? Yes - Pass. I have not heard of an official final remedy but my understanding is Ford will continue to replace axles or bolts as many times as required until the final recall is complete.

Dumb question. How do you know if you have the trailer tow max duty package?

From my sticker, I have the Trailer Tow Package, with Integrated Trailer Brake, but not sure about "max duty".

Easiest way to know for sure is to pop-off a rear wheel centercap (does not require wheel removal, use a nylon / no-scratch pry tool as shown below)

If you see this bolt-head (or find a broken bolt/washer loose in there o_O), you have Max Tow

So what prompted you to check?
Did you hear the rattle of the captured bolt head at slow speed?

Hopefully they get you in/out in a jiffy and you can move on. :)

I was driving slowly by a building with the windows down and it sounded like my rear brakes were rusty or had a rock between the rotor and pad. It wasn't very obvious but I knew my brakes were almost new, and I stomped on the brakes at the following stop sign and the noise didn't go away. :)
