Was 2021 F150 Powerboost now 2022 PB Platinum
Dealer has had my truck for two weeks for the sheared nut. Surprisingly to me both axles replaced and it'll clear the recall. Took Ford about a week to get the parts over to the dealer.

Heard a rattle at slow speed last night, today I swapped out winters and sure enough, passenger side bolt fell on the ground. Talked to dealership, 2 weeks to get in for them to look at. Camping season is just around the corner, hope this doesn't hamper the trips planned starting on 18th.

I joined the broken bolt club today 21 Job 2 PB MT w/17k miles. Took the truck for oil change and to check front brake noise issue and now I'm getting new axles/hubs, battery and front calipers and a brake job. Leaking caliper. Still under 3/36k warranty. Looks like next week camping trip is now in jeopardy. Dealer gave me a loaner...

It has been 3 weeks now and still no parts/repair. Already had to cancel one camping trip.

What?
Did your dealership take pictures of your trucks axle and submit it with the parts order?

it seems like Ford spec’d out some low grade bolt.

Wouldn’t it be quicker to just buy a washer and class 12.9 bolt from McMaster Carr and call it a day?

Bolt wouldn't be necessary if the press wasn't failing.

Furthermore, The axle shaft is straight cut on both ends. How would there be enough pulling force on that shaft to break the press AND the retainment bolt? That bolt fails at 14,000 lbs!

On Semi floating standard axles, The axle is structural. It not only drives the wheel, it supports it. 100% of all wheel forces are on the axle shaft, And in most cases is only held into the axle with a simple c clip. On these 3/4 floating axles, the shaft is only used for power transmission and maybe a little axial support due to bearing slop. Does that much less work and that big hard bolt cant take it? I would think that bolt should handle it even with no press.

Fretting doesn't happen due to a bad bolt,

Why can some people remove their tire and push the axle shaft out of the hub with their fingers if its pressed in?

There is some odd movement happening, some stress, that the pressed in spline isn't equipped to handle. Be it bad heat treating or design.

Ha, Ford doesn’t even know what it is. If they do it’s not cheap. That’s evident in them not having a solution.

Yes. Just got back from the dealership and still part is backordered. They have to go through a special parts ordering process for the recall axles SSOC or something like that. The service manager showed me the screen and they have escalated as far as they can, but they don't have an ETA on the missing part that is needed. They got one of two hub/axles in. Of course the one they got in is one that isn't broken. Still waiting on the axle that broke. I'm on my second loaner now while I wait. I go from a Platinum F150 to a 24 Hybrid Escape w/11 miles on it. Its a cute little car, but no F150... sigh.....

That's amazing since 3 months ago the same ordering procedure you describe has both sides delivered next-day.

I swear I can't make sense of supply chain chaos these days. Follows no logic.

So just for grins, let's try to find an optimistic 'spin' on this ....

They've stopped making the temporary-fix parts because the radically different and improved permanent-fix parts release is imminent and you're gonna be one of the first to get it!
Too much optimism with too much 'spin'? Totally delusional?

Oh well, I tried ..... ?

That would be great if true. I would like the new designed permanent parts so I don't have to do this again. What pisses me off is that they can't even guesstimate an ETA because no where in their system does it show an ETA. Hell it could be 6 months from now.. I have a good dealership and I trust what they are telling me. But C'mon man. You have 1000's of trucks with these rear-ends, you can find one more good axle somewhere?? Well I'm trying to keep positive. Maybe my insurance will total the truck since they can't find a good axle :) I do like the 2024 Super-duty platinum...

Curious if one side breaks more than the other. Could be an indicator as right turns are often tighter than left, though left turns are at slightly higher speed / more torque sooner.

What are they putting in the 24 MTs?

Curious if one side breaks more than the other.
I tracked and compiled certain bolt-break data reported on 'the other forum' (not to be construed as a statistically valid undertaking) for a period of time, ending with 142 unique owner entries (~18 of those had those had repeat failures above the 142 data entries). "Which side" was not an item I formally tracked, but FWIW my recall is that the driver's side failed more often than, and / or before, the passenger side.

Engine type was formally tracked, PB accounted for 67% of reports. I still suspect that the 'reverse loading' of regenerative braking, likely occurring more frequently than the 'reverse loading' on an IC drivetrain, may hold a clue to the failure mechanism.

Attached FYI / FWIW is the final version of my data compilation. Folks continued to report failures, but I stopped the compilation effort because it became tedious and I wasn't observing any IMO significant change in the trends (again, NOT a statistically valid undertaking).

Make of it what you will ....

Both mine broke in my little diesel and the dealership just gave it back to me to drive until they could get replacement axles almost a month later.
