Looking at new trucks at my local dealer and the one I have my eye on is the current GM's truck. They are selling it as "new" since it has not been registered yet. Does anyone know if everything will start at the 4,XXX delivery miles such as Nav subscription, Bluecruise, Sirius XM and warranty ? They are discounting it and I will request the first service be comped.

"Demo" vehicle.

Lot of debate on if those are worth it or not on other forum. I never saw warranty question answered. It's used, but not used. People in the business like Rugedraw might know more about how it works.

The warranty runs from the mileage on the date of sale. If it’s 4K you get 36k on top of that. I’ve bought a demo before and that’s how it worked. Now not sure if FordProtect ESP works that way though

Its a used truck, but sold as new since it was never titled/registered. It allows the buyer to take advantage of all "new" car incentives. Example; my '22 was an ex-loaner with 6k miles on it. The truck has a built date of October of '22 and hit the road on 11/30/22, which is where my warranty started (first "in service" date, verified on Fordpass). I bought it in March '23, so it only had 4 months on it. It was marked down to 51.5k from MSRP of 58.7k. I got 3k in rebates/incentives, which brought it to 48.5k (effectively 10k off MSRP) and I was able to get the leftover '22 new car financing of 0.9% for 60mo. I thought it was a stellar deal, with some used trucks still commanding more money.

Depending on when the warranty "started", you may not care, but you can always negotiate things.

It is a used vehicle. $10,000 off MSRP MINIMUM or no deal imo. Can be a good deal, but take advantage of it and tell the salesman like it is….it’s used. Don’t let them try and tell you it’s new. Use any incentives available as well as their discount. If it’s not $10K ask for more.

Under right circumstances I think the demo can be a good deal but just my personal experience the discounts on them were not enough. Buying used was a better deal for me even with adding ESP that I was going to add anyway.

I'd really give it a detailed look over top to bottom inside and out. Look underneath for signs of abuse too. Just like any used purchase.

Check the KBB for a used truck as that is what you are buying. Many dealers are engaged in this fraud. It is not legal in my state but many auto dealers do it anyway as they get away with it year after year.

I would start with the dealer invoice and offer to pay that amount at the very most. Dealers invoice amounts does not take into account the many discounts and rebates they get from the factory.

I went through this when I bought my F150 as I was looking at one that was a demo. At least with Ford the warranty start is based on the in service date, so if the truck was used as a demo starting in April then 6 months of the warranty would already be gone

Same here. Bought a demo and the 3-36 started from my date of purchase and ESP started after that at like 38k and some change.

Best of luck with the new truck

In my case, buying the demo truck was a better deal than buying a used truck. You need to factor in the incentives/lower financing rate that can be had with a "new" purchase vs a used purchase (rates are UP THERE on used stuff these days). When I was looking in March, the 51.5k for my '22 XLT was a good deal if compared to a used truck with similar miles. The 3k in incentives/rebates and 0.9% financing sealed the deal for me. It was 2k off for the '22 models, 500 for FR discount, and I believe the last 500 was for "customer cash" or the like.

Heres an example of an ex-loaner/demo truck at the same dealer I bought mine:
https://www.monacoford.com/new-Glastonbury-2023-Ford-F+150-XLT+FCTP+OUT-1FTEW1EP2PKD55184
That's a '23 XLT with an assumed 5-7k miles on it. MSRP is 59k and its marked down to 51k. There's a number of incentives/rebates available to get you down sub 50k. Not sure where the new finance rates are these days though, but they are always better than used.

Ultimately, it will be a case by case basis based on the truck that's for sale, the location, the incentives/rebates offered and what you qualify for, etc. Just make sure you do the math with the higher used rate to see what you actually pay for the truck at the end of the day.

The discount better be significant. It's NorCal so my guess is it isn't. Just buy a new truck from Granger off the lot. Do a fly and drive, save money, and put the miles on it yourself driving back (less than 4k).

My observation: That 4,000 miles does not interfere with the warranty. It starts on your delivery. However I'd like to offer a different view. The core issue for me is that you have no idea how that truck, its engine and transmission, were treated in those 4,000 miles. This can make a difference in the life of the truck. If you'll just trade this in in 3-5-7 years, its no big deal, go for it. On the other hand if you take a longer view those extra miles can make a difference. I was fortunate, I ordered and then took delivery of mine with 6.7 miles on it. I've broken it in the way I want and then driven it the way I want in order to make it last. I'm hoping it'll last longer than me... :)
