It’s almost like the corporations in that country are forced to not be greedy, but that sounds a lot like bad communism.

In communism there's only one entity allowed to be greedy. The government.
They're kinda bad at it. Their brilliant idea for capital was to 'own' all of the property and then lease it to people for a one-time fixed price for 99 years. So they're all out of revenue now because everything is now 'leased'. When people sell the structure, the 'lease' is transferred over :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

China doesn't exactly welcome US manufactured vehicles there. They have been just as protective as we have been under both political parties.

But my desires as a consumer, leaving politics completely out, is to at least have access to the competition, tarrifs and all. A 100% tarrif is far more than just a competition equalizer. It's basically a ban. So some of the most innovative, and even highest quality, vehicles are effectively blocked from this capitalist consumer. Me!

Don't misunderstand though, I'd much rather buy a Ford that was having to compete on innovation and quality. And if Ford could match the Chinese vehicle, I'd even pay Ford a bit more for it.

But instead, so called "National Security" is at risk if BYD built a dealership in Texas. So Ford gets to SANDBAG their 70 year loyal American customer. ???

I have 3 Ford trucks, a Ford passenger van, and a Ford EV. I don't know what more I can do to carry my end of the bargain. I want my Blue Oval Extended Range Electric Truck. Or my Blue Oval plug-in Hybrid truck. I want a ProPower inverter in ANY Ford that has a high voltage battery............

Tried to copy Harry J. Sonneborn’s business model and missed a few important steps.

Indeed. This vehicle is kinda way over the top in some features, but in others like 3 row heated/cooled/massage -- I mean $80k truck you get front HCM seats only and they're basically 7 way. The benefit all of these chinese companies and even tesla have is that they're not carrying legacy baggage and they're lean/mean and mostly vertically integrated. Ford started out that way but as specialization kicked in and everyone became master of one it made sense.

Now with modern technology ford has no reason to not go back to vertical integration with a unified architecture to use in their vehicles, which they're kinda trying, but still relying on 3rd parties far too much. That's complicated software and supply chains. Instead of adapting when something pops up, it's got to be drawn out for years before it gets addressed and years longer for the change to be implemented. 18 months to patch a module because of 3rd party vendor dependencies shouldn't still be happening.

While there are legitimate concerns for industry protectionism, particularly for the super powers, it shouldn't come at the cost of stagnant products. The benefit china has had being the world's manufacturer is that when you produce at scale, you notice trends, efficiencies, methods for streamlining, being able to adopt new technology at a faster pace, etc... Incumbent auto's playbook is dated and they needed a rapid transition over 2 years ago.

Tesla started on their 3rd vehicle using the same incumbent auto manufacturing strategy and then abandoned it all together on all platforms and now they don't build a single vehicle the way legacy auto does. China watched their transition and jumped onboard and they're currently taking over global auto. Incumbent auto? Well they're still 'testing' the 'new' technology that's no longer new, while also sticking to running the same platform 6-7 years. We're 5 years on from what was a real radical transformation in powertrains and US auto... well they've done pretty much nothing with it outside of watch it obsolete them.

I'm sure in 2027 ford will release a competitor for what's being sold globally, today. Anyone else jumping on the farley gotta go train yet or will another year of stagnation do it for ya? Everyone here has clearly contributed to ford's bottom line, quite a few spanning generations. They need to do better.

I saw a few of these in Oman last year. They look like a Polestar/Volvo. They were on display in one of the malls near the Volvo’s.

Price levels are 45/50/$55k for the 3 trims. Top trim ~850hp PHEV, 50kWh batt, 650 mile highway range (batt + fuel tank), 3C charging w/ 120 highway miles in electric only. At least 9 cameras in it (didn't really dive into the technicals on it) -- top trim has L3 ADAS powered by NVIDIA w/ HD aka 4D radar and LIDAR.
Sad reality, some of these new PHEV's from China are close to being worth the price even with a 100% tariff.

issues: body panel alignment, paint, trim pieces, headliner, sunshade track, struts
At that point it just sounds like typical ford QC than reliability. Don't scare me like that I was thinking of trading in for a ranger raptor

10-20% of a vehicle's cost is labor depending on country of origin. Tesla's labor costs are below 10% and they have some the largest margins in the industry. Hollow, but easily said point -- unfortunately it's just not true.
Yes. That is why corporations NEVER move their manufacturing to China... :)

Ya. I've had people who make things tell me they can get 100 parts made in China for the price of one made in America. (And for the record, before you get all "Here we go with random claims", the parts being made were sprayer nozzles for crop sprayers)

I never thought I'd live to see the day where people are cheerleading China, but here we are.
