Insane. Especially with current epa leadership, regs should be getting rolled back. Thank God i bought a 23. If I bought a 26 at 60,001 miles the sawzall would be getting broke out to remove said filter

EPA has entered the chat hahaha.
This is actually pretty dumb. The modern gasoline engine does not emit "particulate" like a diesel engine does. We already have catalytic converters, and they already clog from time to time.

The turbocharged engines will always make “soot” as oil is usually introduced through the forced induction system, that’s why when you swipe your finger inside a turbocharged engines tail pipe, it’s black. It’s a natural by product of forced induction. It creates it other ways also, but the 14th gen 3.5s also have an egr valve and cooler, which if anyone’s know about the diesel world, will result in bad news. Will take longer for issues to arise as lower carbon and soot levels come from gasoline engines. On top of that, they lowered the horsepower from 400 to 382 on 2026 models I believe.

So is the reason we're seeing lowered power ratings for the same engines in 2026?

I’m hoping the naturally aspirated engines like the 5.0 wont need these GPF’s and so far it appears as though they didn't need to put one on the 5.0.

The 5.0 burns really clean so adding one probably won’t be needed anytime soon. Thankfully!

Yeah, another plus for the 5.0 (y)

I have found literally no downside to the 5.0 honestly!
I agree and I have a 2025 F150 with Ecoboost 2,.7 to compare it to which is also a decent motor. Speaking of which did Ford put the GPF on the 2.7?

Nope, only the 3.5 in powerboost and ecoboost get it. Im not sure why as the 2.7 doesn’t make a whole lot less hp/tq.

Oh yes they do. Actually far worse than an emissions diesel. Direct injection engines emit horrific amounts of fine particulate that's known to be a health hazard. This should be have been done a decade ago, but better late than never.

Gonna let you in on a little secret: Political leadership is next to irrelevant at agencies like EPA and DOT. They talk a big game for a year out of the gate but the grind continues on. Science doesn't discriminate between R and D.

GPFs have been incorporated into the catalytic converter "brick" for a decade now overseas. There's literally zero reason to remove it.

Just from a gearhead perspective, two of the aspects I'll be curious to learn about relating to this device ...

OIl
Will we see a new Ford WSS-xxxxxx-xx oil specification / requirement for engines with the GPF? Might the SAPs requirements for the GFP spawn a new Ford oil spec with attendant new / specific oil offerings from lubricant manufacturers (and an accompanying increase of traffic on forum 'oil threads') ?
Regeneration Strategy / Management
Will GPF regeneration, rare though the need for that process may arise, be managed by revisions to the PCM or by a new module dedicated to that purpose? Might be interesting to see if / how the list of modules and / or module addresses changes with the inclusion of the GPF, and what, if any, impact this has on FORScan compatibility / revisions.

As with any new device, only time will tell .... doubtless this thread is only the precursor, there will be no shortage of 'discussion' ( , ahem) on forums about the GPF (and associated 'issues' both real and imagined) as the GPF-equipped 2026 models hit the streets.

I’d be willing to bet the oil will stay the same and lubrication would come first. But the regeneration would be rarely needed as gas engines produce higher heat during cycles to burn off all the carbons and soot. I believe the burn off begins around 600 degrees which the ecoboost can make all day long, especially during towing instances! I used to work on heavy duty diesel before I switched to automotive and I had to ‘force’ regents all the time due to incomplete burns. I’m wondering if there will be a button to do a forced regen one these truck as safety measure to avoid limp mode and derates. Many many questions I have. Hopefully they will be answered! Short answer to all the egr and gpf items, drive it like you stole it! 😂
