Yes, the slippery slope is very real and self driving/regulated driving will only increase as majority are willing to give up mounds of freedom for small grains of safety. There is a way around it, and guys have all ready started doing that. GM and Ford are even there to back you up lol.

Both are selling emissions compliant crate engines with complete power control packs and transmissions to repower older vehicles. Ford offers the 5.0L and 7.3 Zilla packages for this purpose, GM is offering the 6.2, and an array of a few other engines. You can take them and power an old truck or car with a modern powertrain/drivetrain in a complete package that runs on arrival. A few guys have done this on the boating forum I’m on, with great results. The challenge is finding a clean example of an older truck, but it can be done. Look I’m 25 and considering it, I will NOT have the government self limit my speed. If I want to break the law I will, that’s not their decision to make. I’m my own person, and I break laws every day, and will do so until the day I die. Sue me :).

Revoking or suspending a license does not stop that person from driving. I’ve seen this everyday for 15 years. Maybe in the land of gum drops and candy canes but here that is not a reality.
You're exactly right. The necessary second step is serious prison time (10+ years) for folks who drive with a revoked license.

I'd be fine with this if we first decoupled the pulling of licenses for non-driving related offenses. Some states use license revocation as penalties means for things that have zero to do with driving at all because they only need to change a variable in a database and then use it to milk taxpayers of $.

For habitual uninsured drivers the second time should see vehicle seized / auctioned and funds put into an uninsured compensation fund where 100% of the funds go to offset costs of uninsured drivers. Some of those solutions just make too much sense though and the state is more interested in collecting revenue for themselves than actually providing utility / safety to citizens. After all, they don't pay for uninsured driver's harm, the insured do. Some states / cities have taken this to the extreme becoming unlivable, particularly on the west coast. Taxpayers get shafted while criminals run amuck.

We have already lost control to the elites with their deciding who gets on the ballot in the first place. They decide who gets into public office and who is selected to be a judge and who is in control of the military and the police forces and whose opinion is allowed into the print media or seen on TV or heard on the radio. They are even deciding what is taught in the schools and what books are available in the public libraries.

It is the auto finance industry that wants the kill switches so if a buyer is behind or their auto payments they can shut down the vehicle completely. This is already been done to cars purchased in many cases and plenty of posts where people have been stranded on the freeways by the finance company and no recourse for the affected individual. If the finance company makes a mistake, which often happens, the car buyer becomes a victim.

Anyone who thinks that there is some people in Congress who decide what becomes a law is very naive. Corporations use ALEC to draft language which supports their special interests and needs and it is cut and pasted verbatim into new laws. It is the people funding ALEC that run the country.

Page one was reasonable people raising the alarm about authorities (which would include your loan company BTW) being able to disable your vehicle for whatever reason they deem fit.

So now on page 4, some of us are championing 10 year PRISON SENTENCES, and civil asset forfeiture for traffic violations?

Unbelievable.

Certainly there are better solutions. I have a few, but they would be just wasted among this forum of Karens.

Some of you guys are coming off as true totalitarian statists.

IDGAF what your personal anecdotal tragedy stories are, this kinda crap is unacceptable. Holy f*cking shit Batman!
The specific crime is reckless endangerment. If you get drunk and point a gun at someone, you go to jail. If you get drunk and point a car at a bunch of people, what should the penalty be?

Why are vehicle prices so expensive? THIS!

We rely too heavily on the government to protect us from the each other. And before you jump down my throat, I am also referring to the emergency trunk latch, seat belt protectors (can't open the door without seatbelt on or the vehicle will go into park).

I understand that we want to prevent drunk driving, but there are ways to do that, that do not infringe upon our rights.

That is my stance and it isn't changing.

Unbelievable what I'm reading here from so called FEDUP "Americans".
Some of us are realists and live in there here and now, and can critically analyze it. Wanting policy changes to put the people over the state isn't radical.

Uninsured drivers represent up to 30% of drivers in some states. That's a clear indication that the penalties for doing such aren't sufficient. States use that as a revenue collection scheme on the backs of the insured who have to pay higher premiums because of such drivers. States could just as well form a default liability insurance company with the financial burden resting solely on the backs of those who do such. Why are the insured burdened with $200+/yr for the poor choices of others while at the same time the state profits from it?

2021 XLT Screw 5.0,4x4,302Asport,
I've had one car totaled with my 21 year old behind the wheel. He was stopped at a traffic light when rear ended by a drunk car salesman.

Rather than go with the dog whistle blown by the OP, there are plenty of articles on this. Random choice: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...switch-cars-police-drunk-driving/11066287002/

Many of you already own Blue cruise and similar vehicles. These vehicles demonstrate the ability to monitor your activity and shut off if you do. Heck even adaptive cruise keeps us on our toes.

Haven't even gotten to what your cell phone says about you...and where you are.....

Weasel words.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics. If this is true...

Then this is as well...
90% of those drivers are illegal aliens. Certainly SOMETHING could be done to mitigate this. ?

Hmm... I have a feeling talking about what NEEDS to be done would net one a ban for "politics", and also get one labeled as "racist" in the process.

While I don't give much weight to anecdotes as evidence, my wife was rear ended last year by an illegal that proceeded to get out and yell at her (In English) for stopping in front of him at a red light. When the cops got there, all of a sudden it was "no espeaky". I'll tell you what, the little bastard was lucky the police got there before I did. When asked for insurance proof, the only thing he provided was the word, si. They let him drive away, rather than deal with someone who claimed to "no espeaky", after berating my wife in English just minutes before.

How's this for a proposal? No Espeaky, No Edrivey.

Reports were filed, fault was assigned to him, and he then just plain disappeared. Ended up replacing the bumper cover myself, on my dime. I doubt he even gave his real name.

Want to talk about the REAL issue? Or would you rather jail the young mother or father that just can't plain afford insurance while working 2 jobs to barely be able to pay for rent, groceries, doctor bills and taxes without all the handouts freely given to illegals. There's no blanket fix. These matters need to be looked at on a case by case basis.

No shit. I'm all for increasing the fines for driving uninsured, and using said funds to implement a program to protect normal people like you and I that play by the rules. Guess what? This will NEVER happen. Because...

Also do the insurance companies and their lobbyists.

Civil asset forfeiture is most certainly NOT the answer. Neither is a 10 FUCKING YEAR PRISON SENTENCE for driving without a license. WTF?

You may not have posted that last bit, but you DID give it a hearty thumbs up. Are you guys out of your ever loving minds??

I have a feeling that this conversation can not go much further here, with the political restrictions this site imposes.
If someone wants to drive uninsured / unlicensed facing 10yrs, by all means give it to them. Everyone's got a list of excuses a mile long no matter what it is. Keeping a license is really easy as is getting liability coverage. I see it time and again, $1k purse, $1k phone, $30 bottle of liquor in the floorboard, $40 baggie of drugs, etc..., but can't afford $30/mo for some cheap liability? I was born at night, just not last night.

my solution for un insured drivers and those without a license that get caught...here in texas ENFORCE the law
its easy
no insurance the vehicle can be towed
no license the vehicle can be towed and driver arrested
i know it seems harsh ...but it is what it is
i would add you get stopped and no insurance...your vehicle is impounded until such times as you produce a policy covering said vehicle paid up for a complete term (6 months here)
then the vehicle is off the road.
no DL, a night in jail, or STEEP actual fine of 1k. lets you go to work, but no vehicle until such time as you have valid license and valid full term paid insurance.
boom

Watching my older cousins raise their kids on iPads and not allowing them to go play in the mud, trick or treat, or walk by themselves down the street to friends houses has set my mind. If I do have kids (clock is ticking, I’m all ready 25 so it may not be in the cards), they will not have an iPad, I will force them to go play in the mud…..and I’m not driving them 5 houses up the road. Watching 8 year olds not be able to function without an iPad when me and my cousins were building forts in the woods at that age makes me cringe. No overbearing parenting or iPad kids for me :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:. Go outside dammit!
My kids had no electronics growing up. They didnt get a cell phone until they started driving. Kids need to be kids.

No, give them 10 years in prison. That should really cut down on the high speed chases. :ROFLMAO:

And wtf does any of this have to do with the subject of the thread?

Big brother wants control of your personal vehicle.

Only complete idiots would be OK with that.

Same ones that would be perfectly fine with eliminating cash.

America has lost its balls.
it does not...but we started down the rabbit hole again

I think the original point was that the government is trying to force control down our throats without exploring alternate solutions that would probably do more good without infringing upon the rights of folks who aren't violating the law.

Yeah, not sure too many people coming off a 10yr prison vacation going to be looking to go right back, but if they are, well enjoy I guess

I and I want them to have control, of your vehicle. I'm more than capable of taking care of my own ;)

People do all kinds of things against their best interest from installing eaves dropping devices in their homes (Alexa, smart TVs, just about any IOT device), allow unobscured cameras, even put one in their doorbell the local police can access.

These things aren't hard to get around and participation is and will be optional to the informed.
