The particulate burn-off needs oxygen to burn the particulate which gasoline engines do not do much like a diesel engine does because they use up all the oxygen during the combustion process (stoichiometric). They only let oxygen into the exhaust system during moments of deceleration and or if they run the engine and lean conditions are not good for NOX emissions so that cant happen for too long. From what I have read the regeneration process will be rarely needed for a gas engine so it may not be an issue.

100% agree. Unfortunately we shall see. I’m sure there will be safety provisions built into the programming to hopefully show/tell you when it’s reaching a level of restriction or derate.

For what it's worth we have a VW store in our dealership group and I've never heard them say they needed to run an active regen on the VW stuff that have GPFs. Even if they did, it's just a simple "drive the car above 50mph in a lower gear for 10 minutes" type of thing. It's nothing at all like a diesel particulate filter regen.

You'd really have to try to cause a GPF warning on the dash. Any amount of highway speed will clean it out. Even a hard acceleration followed by a coast down to stop sign will do it.
