Yes, the slippery slope is very real and self driving/regulated driving will only increase as majority are willing to give up mounds of freedom for small grains of safety. There is a way around it, and guys have all ready started doing that. GM and Ford are even there to back you up lol.
Both are selling emissions compliant crate engines with complete power control packs and transmissions to repower older vehicles. Ford offers the 5.0L and 7.3 Zilla packages for this purpose, GM is offering the 6.2, and an array of a few other engines. You can take them and power an old truck or car with a modern powertrain/drivetrain in a complete package that runs on arrival. A few guys have done this on the boating forum I’m on, with great results. The challenge is finding a clean example of an older truck, but it can be done. Look I’m 25 and considering it, I will NOT have the government self limit my speed. If I want to break the law I will, that’s not their decision to make. I’m my own person, and I break laws every day, and will do so until the day I die. Sue me
