Wanna swap out the 2-piece OEM lug nuts. Hoping folks here can clear up a bit, particularly with Gorilla brand lug nuts. Live in a pretty snowy area and we used to use sand and gravel but it seems over the past 10 years road chemicals are being used a lot more now. Trade rock chips for potential rust I guess....

McGard 64073 (4-pack) / 69473 (bulk) I suspect are the way to go, however, I don't like that they are 22mm (truck tire iron is 21mm) and for whatever reason they don't look quite right to me. Like they're a tad smaller than OEM or something.

I see Gorilla often mentioned, but everyone seems to say "get only the lifetime warranty" Gorillas. Standard is 1-year warranty. But my understanding is these would be 21mm so that works with the tire iron.

I can't for the life of me find or figure out the right lug nut size for gorilla with a lifetime warranty. Their website shows 3 options for my truck but all 3 are standard 1-year warranty.

Anyone know the Gorilla part number for the lifetime warranty chrome lug nuts that work with our trucks?

Just a side note.... the lug nuts are torqued to 150ft/lbs...the factory tire iron is a, IMO, a casted piece of crap...I bought a Johnson bar and correct size socket for the truck. No slipping off and can get any size lugnut.

Would always use a torque wrench for service. Was more thinking about the flat-tire-on-road situation for using the factory tire iron.

Which would be really great time to discover swollen OEM lug nuts

I should have mentioned that I carry them in the truck all the time. Torque wrench is used when I get home. I also do my own summer/winter tire swap, so I know when the lug nuts are screwed up. And replace them.

Last I checked (admittedly a while back), Gorilla didn't make lifetime lug nuts in an exact match, only the 1 year ones. I can confirm that those do rust very quickly.

Dorman is another that makes an exact match one piece, but when I last looked into it, it was fairly new and I am not sure if rust is an issue.

I got the McGards for the last truck and bought a 22mm wrench to keep in the truck for flats. They did not rust. This one still has the factory two piece lug nuts on it. Was kind of hoping for a better option by now.

I have the black McGards on mine and I keep a breaker bar, extension and 1" socket in the truck for emergency removal/installation. If they develop any rust, you can easily clean them up with an overnight evaporust bath.

I keep this wrench in some of my vehicles. Sadly, not currently available.

But I also have this Craftsman wrench. Very good, but not as nice as the OEMTools edition.

And I've been known to toss my Porter-Cable 20v impact wrench in a vehicle from time to time with this Ingersoll Rand lug nut impact set. Not the torquiest of impact wrenches, but it's not too expensive and thus works well as an on-the-road, don't care if something happens to it tool. And when I use a jack that has a socket end rather than an eyelet the P-C impact wrench is great for getting the jack up and down quickly.

Love my McGard set (in black. Also, with a locking nut per each wheel).

NEVER have I used (or will I use) the OEM lug nut bar.

Time for the torque wrench is when I get home.

i think I had seen those but I don’t believe they have the lifetime warranty.
FWIW detailed search on Gorilla's website filtered for chrome finish, acorn bulge, m14x1.5, with 13/16" (21mm) hex head shows none with "lifetime warranty", methinks the 1-yr warranty is all they offer for that style

When I was a kid my dad used to take care of the vending machines at the McGard factory. I went with him on an over time service call and the foreman took us on a factory tour to show us how they were made, very cool, and high quality. To solve the swollen lug nut problem get a set of flip sockets that have half sizes. This is a good set that I've used for some time now...link below.

I've just purchased the McGard 64073 nuts and they are very nice albeit expensive. I also carry a large breaker bar and my 1/2" torque wrench along with a non-marring 22 mm socket in my tool box in the back, I couldn't even imagine using a regular tire iron on these beasts. Ed, I bought a set of those flip sockets, really saved me on my 2013's swollen lugs before putting on Gorillas.

So the 2024's are still using the two piece design? At work they often have to use a 6 foot breaker bar and/or a blow torch to get them off sometimes. If so, will get replacements for my 2024.

Unfortunately yes, I didn't even think to give them a look until I saw a post on this forum that they were still using them, which I couldn't believe.
