NY is a diminished value state, I believe. You likely have a claim. This may show up on a CarFax, it's no longer the OEM panel, the paint is no longer OEM paint and will age differently. Likely have a claim for ~$2-3K. https://www.dvcheck.com/diminished-value-claim/new-york
I was hoping someone responded with this before I had the chance.

If the dealer files an insurance claim n your truck, they need to reimburse you for the loss of value for the vehicle being in an accident! if they don’t, threaten to take them to small claims court. No judge would side with a dealer who is clearly at fault damaging a new vehicle.

Insurance companies have a formula to calculate it.

I lost $6k in value from a hit and run. The accident was just under the one year mark and then Covid caused me to wait 7months to get the repairs completed. The $6k hit was this time last year when used vehicles were at the highest values they had been in years. If it was this year that I traded it in, I probably would have lost more value.

Merry (belated) Christmas!

This is great info. While the dealership has been cooperative in getting the vehicle repaired to an "almost" previous condition, there is no denying it's not the same as it was when I handed them the keys. I was assured it wouldn't hit the Carfax, lo and behold, I got a notification yesterday that on the 23rd "services" were performed at the body shop. It's not showing up as an accident (yet) as far as I can tell, but it does indicate something required addressing by a body shop. I'm not thrilled about that one bit. I'm wondering if legal proceedings can be avoided and if that $3k can be addressed through a purchase of a new vehicle through the dealership. Interest rates have certainly gone up, but if I can come out nearly square in terms of monthly payment (same term as original loan) and get a new truck that has no prior damage, I'd be happier about it. I found a truck at a nearby dealer (the one I originally bought my truck from) that is nearly identical except it has the 3.5L instead of the 2.7L but I'd be giving up my 20" wheels, which I could live without. If I have a legitimate claim I can leverage against (which it clearly seems I do) this seems to be a better option than going to court.

As someone with experience: Over 20 years ago I had a Miata and the quick lube place forgot to lighten the lugs. The wheels never came off but they paid to have Mazda inspect and replace some studs and gave me a few oil changes for a free... I never went back... I figured not much harm, not much foul. A year or two later, my dad had his brand new long bed king cab at the Ford dealership for its first service and they raked the side of it against the service bay entrance. It was a mess. The repair was horrible and they came to an agreement to order him a new truck. I think he ate few thousand in the end. I seriously doubt the dealership will file it under their garage owners insurance as they probably have a high deductible (and I'd be surprised if they didn't already have a claim or three filed...). They will likely do the minimum that they think will satisfy you. Be prepared to stand your ground. And when you do, also expect them to say that they've gone the extra mile to satisfy you and that you are being unreasonable. Did they give you the chance to have it sent to third party shop for an estimate? Have you spoken to an adjuster? I'm betting no. I'm going on 20 years in P&C Insurance and I've just about seen and heard it all... Good luck.

I’d also take a look at the threads on the wheel studs and make sure that they weren’t marred, pulled or stripped in any way.

I also always torque my own wheels after anyone else touched them, though it’s more because they usually over-tighten them and I don’t want to be on the side of the road changing a flat with the shitty emergency tools loosening lug nuts welded down with a pneumatic impact wrench running WOT.
Ha, just went through this at the alignment shop. Before they took my truck, I asked how they tighten lug nuts and LCA bolts - reply - lock tight and our largest impact gun :ROFLMAO:

Unfortunately the maintenance techs are usually those with the least experience. I had my left side mirror broken with a lift, an oily spot left on my console from the techs elbow backing the truck out of the bay, & yet another mechanic leave the old rubber seal/o-ring from an oil filter on the engine block, that ultimately caused oil to spray all over the motor, just over the last few years at a very large Ford dealership. I cringe when they offer me free oil changes, even though they have readily taken responsibility for all these things when they occurred.
True old story, took my 2003 6.0L F250 in for the dreaded main seal wet spot. The process involves removing the engine, flipping it upside down, and putting it all back together. The tech supposedly drained all the fluids before and after flipping the engine around..... nope, when he went to start it, enough fluid drained back into the cylinders and kerplewy, two connecting rods blew out the side of the block from hydrolock.

Another story, planned a trip to Disney (yes, I like going there) in my then 2018 3.5 EB Lariat. Didn't have time to change my oil, so I went to the dealer <gulp> last minute (leaving the next day). From Texas to Pensacola, FL, stopped for candy and drinks and as I walked up to the truck, I saw a large, 2ft dia. dark spot under my truck. Turns out the oil filter (mounts side ways as we know) was loose as a goose. Fortunately, my oil level was at the bottom end of the "safe zone". Still I'll never ever, ever never let any one else change my oil, let alone rotate my tires.

Especially today, struggling with people to show up to work, let alone having enough pride to do a good job.

Damn, sorry you had to experience this!

My truck fell off the lift at Discount Tire the other day...with all the tires off. Fun stuff! Then took it to Ford to check for any damage, took them two weeks to do that. And more recently, got an oil change, and noticed a weird noise upon acceleration, sounded like I had a cold air intake installed lol. I pulled over, popped the hood, and sure enough they didnt re-attach the air filter/air filter box.

I'm a younger man who works in construction so I see it in our industry as well, I am very concerned about the future off our country as far as skilled labor is concerned.

The average age of these mechanics I have seen working on my rig is probably around 25yrs, they don't seem to be as thorough as the old timers. Unreal.

Anyway, my rant is over.

So this happened today. The truck was in for a routine oil change and for the underbody insulator recall. As I was pulling out of the dealer lot the front wheel came off and rolled out into the ditch. The front quarter panel landed on the tire and got a bent up into the A-pillar which nicked the paint. The wheel sustained some damage from the bolt at the bottom of the lower control arm so that is getting replaced along with the lower control arm (which you can see ground into the pavement) and the quarter panel. As they pulled it into the garage the rear wheel was also ejecting lug nuts onto the floor, so those weren't tightened either. Aside from the rim, lower control arm, and quarter panel, is there anything else I should be concerned with and have replaced? Are the wheels hub or lug centric? I'm wondering if any damage was sustained to the rear wheel while it wasn't tight and potentially caused issues with it that will result in excessive vibration later on. If hub centric, maybe not a big deal.
I would have them replace the rotor and check the front wheel bearings also.

I want to say thank you to all those that responded to this thread. After inquiring about the diminished value and seeing what kind of deal they could make on a new vehicle purchase, I ended up going that route. However, I did not buy from the dealership that did the damage. I reached out to my sales manager at the dealership I originally bought my truck from (to see how fair the deal was) and upon hearing about the issue they offered to match the deal. All said and done, they ended up beating it by a couple thousand. I'm now in a 2022 XLT 302A with a 3.5L, max trailer tow, and 360 cameras. Despite the nearly $5k increase in base price and $2k extra in options than my truck, I was out the door for ~$800 more than my original truck. Interest rates have shifted a bit, but despite that I feel it was a solid move. Also, when I got the truck back I noticed the top fender bolt (under the trim that at the bottom of the windshield) was still loose and that just left me with an uneasy feeling about the work they did. Overall, I'm happy with how things turned out and I really appreciate the support and guidance provided by this thread!

IMO you are 100% correct. Skilled labor is becoming rare. Skilled labor is going to be where the pay is gouing to be great, but how many screw ups will it take to get that that skill level.Pride in quality workmanship is slipping away at alarming rates.Next to that, instructors that know to pass this knowledge on is fading away.

I'm glad to hear that it worked out to your favor, good news!
Even with the new truck, I would be like "Not that I don't trust you, but can we put it on a lift and check the lug nuts, just to be sure?"

After an event like that, I'd have my torque wrench on hand to check them myself before I ever left a dealership in the future.

...and after installing my level kit, I did just that when I took my truck to have it aligned. When I offered my 250 lbs. torque wrench instead of "we tighten the LCA nuts until we can't." They looked at me like I had 3 heads :) The shop manager (Goodyear) was cool though and they did tighten the nuts properly (no "arm strong" or zip zip guns).

How do these "techniques" get handed down - they aren't I guess - makes me sad.

As some one said earlier, the skills are getting lost these days. You can apply that to so many trades today.

To the OP, I would have done the same thing. It will forever be right there in your head every time you start your truck.
