I’m sure it’s been discussed and a post about changing gauges and dash cluster with the wrong component could cancel future updates causing me to ask this
I have a 2014 model car that would run in the event of some type of hack that would cause new vehicles to crash.
I know this is crazy subject but I think of it
Can my 22 F150 be disconnected from software to prevent this?

What would be the negative effect
Future improvements it tranny shifting possibilities and other fine tuning?
If they were hacked and wouldn’t run could unplugged let them run again?

You simply aren't going to ever receive any OTA updates.

Not nearly the consequence that the early builds (2021) might have experienced, since those trucks HAVE received many improvements across the board during the first 12-18 months from release.

A mongoose OBD adapter and a $50 temporary license to FDRS will allow you to manually keep your truck up to date on your own terms.

Just place one of these over the truck’s antenna:

Since it’s “discreet”, you can just keep it in your truck and nobody will know it’s a tin-foil hat.

Yea, simply unplug the TCU behind the passenger side rear seat.

No modem..... No connectivity.
That's I meant to say. Unplug the TCU thingy :)

Worst case scenario I can see something like that happening and many if not all vehicles from maybe 2017+ just stopping
Unlikely I suppose
I’m afraid this hi tech stuff is beyond me
I’d be screwed

Sorry but that's not happening. System in vehicles are not the same so there can't be single hack that would kill all vehicles. Somebody executing a hack is doing it for a gain. Usually that is a monetary gain, targeting a group of vechles and disabling them has no monetary reward. Maybe a group say a police depart and doing ransom ware. Cloning a key or using a repeater to steal the vehicle, has a monetary reward.

You have a better chance of somebody setting off an EMP bomb. That would knock out communications and electronics in the vicinity.

Same solution as folks who were freaked out about GM’s OnStar worrying it was tracking them over a decade ago…just disconnect the radio/modem. You can always plug it back it before selling. Connected features won’t work, and you‘ll lose access to OTA updates and have to update via FDRS, but the vehicle is entirely drivable without it.

No one going to hack your truck and cause it to be undrivable.
TCU I think is behind rear seat back on rear wall. Someone needs to confirm that for you.

You’re interested in monkeying around with your $60,000+ truck by modifying connections of components you don’t know much about? Seems quite a bit riskier than the hypothetical hack attack, at least to me.

We had a guy at work went off deep end
He was stuffing tin foil in vents of his truck and home to stop the rays
Also wore tin foil hood
He was sick and running a huge dozer
I felt terrible for him
