Ajzride said he’s working on an update to correct these issues that have arisen because Comma or OpenPilot changed some coding. So now BluePilot needs updating. He said it would take a few weeks.
You still have to understand what is a bluepilot issue versus what is a comma model issue.

Hugging lines in a comma model issue that we can only slap a band-aid on. The tuning topics on the first page and the github readme explain how to put that band-aid on.

I came out of a store, started the truck and have a "Steering Assist Fault - Service Required" message and have lost power steering assist. I know there is no PS fluid or reservoir, but thoughts on what I might think to check. I'm wondering if having the Comma 3x could in some way be complicit? Thoughts?

If I have to take the truck in, must I use Ford if I have a Ford extended warranty? (I know this really isn't the forum for that question...just thought I'd ask...almost 2 weeks to get an appt with Ford).

So, back to Comma 3 topics...IF I have to take the truck in, can I assume I should remove the Comma 3x harness at a minimum? Could running this void the warranty? I believe they would have to be able to prove it in some way caused the damage, but since I really don't understand 3x well enough, not sure if I could answer this. I guess I should remove at least the harness and reconnect the Ford harness to see if that in some way solves the problem.

A) remove the comma and restart the truck. See if problem solved. If not
B) remove harness (while truck is off) turn on and see if solved.

I’ve never seen a bug in command kill power steering, this is new. Let us know the results of A and B

To expound further, no the C3X cannot bound your warranty. But to save an argument with your dealer, I would remove it before going in for maintenance on anything related to the ADAS.

I don’t know about service locations for the ford extended warranty. mine expires before I ever needed it.

Ok, tried A and B and no change. I removed the harness and put it back as it should be, but can't think of any reason to remove the USB cable to the windshield mount. If anyone asks, it is for a dash cam I removed when it went belly-up. Other end isn't connected to anything, so all should be fine I'd think. The USB cable part is the easy part, but why create work, right? And I guess I'll have to put all the FORSCAN back to as original.

Corrext.

if you are up to it, I would get a forscan adapter and read/reset codes myself before going to the dealer. Usually you can get one from Amazon overnight. Under $50 and saves the headache of a dealer visit (possibly multiple times per year)

I have a code scanner and I'd already done that...but same codes are still popping and still getting the same error message. Local Ford dealer has a mobile crew that will come out to assess tomorrow. I guess we'll see what they come up with. Not sure if the scanner you are talking about is something different than what I have though.

Forscan is a laptop based program that is far more powerful than a handheld scanner.

Ok, I have one of those as well, but have only used it to make FORScan module changes (eg. Lincoln folding mirrors). I hate having to use Windows unless absolutely necessary, so this would be one of those cases...but, I will have to look into other things FORScan might offer. I had a Ford Mobile guy out yesterday. I forgot to write down what he found, but something about a module (PCM? something) that needs to be replaced and they have that part available, but to replace that, they have to replace the entire rack, so it will have to go in to the shop. Sorry I can't be more specific at this time what exactly is wrong, but will update as soon as I can. My truck only has 53K miles, so got to say this failing so soon after installing the Comma3x does raise concerns. But fortunately, this is all covered under my extended warranty so will only cost me $100 (deductible). BUT, since no one else seems to have similar issues, maybe I should actually be thanking C3X for maybe accelerating the affected parts to the point of failure WHILE still under warranty.

I'll also mention this: Since installing the C3X, I have been blown away by how well it worked. Never noticed any ping-ponging UNTIL just a bit before the power steering going out. It was noticeable enough for me to mention to the wife that I hadn't noticed it before. So maybe 6 miles later, I parked at the Ace Hardware, came out and had the failure notice on the dash show up and no power steering. So wonder if the ping ponging might have be a foreshadowing of what was soon to follow.

Thanks a lot for this....and yeah, PSCM is likely what the mechanic said. Nice to have people like you who have the abilities to move us forward

Just got my Comma3x In yesterday and about to do the install. It seems they changed the Power connector from rj-45 to some proprietary connector. Curious if anyone has found a better solution since the cord is about 10FT long. For now Ill just tuck it up under the dash, but would be nice to be able to get something more fit for purpose.

Also I am admittedly not thorugh all 50+ pages, but im struggling to understand the differences between 2.1 and 3.1. The github pages seem to reference the same control features, with 3.1 having more UI enhancenments like hybrid data overlays.

I guess my question is do they use the same model?
Is one better for city driving than the other?

start with 2.1. It’s a full feature release with less quirks.

Yes. I agree. I use 2.1 atm. I had tried all the new versions and while I liked and appreciated the work Ajzride has done i found 2.1 to be simpler and rock solid.
Unless you are tech savvy and understand all the available tweeks that are in versions past 2.1 you should start with 2.1. It does everthing you would expect.
Once you become comfortable and get the feeling of 2 1 then try newer versions.

PSCM. Power Steering Control Module.

I did alot of reverse engineering when I was a part of a company designing aircraft flight systems.
Your investigation of the steering encoder is a great place to start.
Will you tell me the wire colors coming out of the steering encoder? I tried to pause the video.
I think I can help figure how the data is sent.
Analog or PWM or a hybrid of both.
I also suspect you will find only 5 volts supplying the encoder. Becides a multi meter you will need a oscope.
This should be easy to figure out.
I'm suspecting analog for position and PWM for speed. A typical torque sensor uses analog. There should be a torque sensor.
I also suspect redundant data.
That box at the Steering is only for providing data to the pscm.
