I was doing an oil change yesterday and decided to add the Fumoto Oil Drain Plug Valve. I must have drop the plug or something because when I inserted the plug, the stem broke off. Trust me, I wasn't twisting it that hard. Luckily my brother had a tool that could unscrew the stem without breaking it or leaving it in the pan, so all is good, but quite a few cuss words came out of my mouth after it happened. I put the original drain plug in and plan to keep it from now on.

I do fine it strange that brass was used for that valve, being a softer metal.

No harm, no foul.

Might’ve been a defective one. I’ve used one in another vehicle for over 15 years ever had a single issue.

Years ago I bought 2 of those for my F150 and Edge. Removed them both soon after. Glad you got it sorted without further issue.

Like they always say. If it ain’t broke then don’t fix it or keep it simple stupid (not you). The old tried and true drain plug!

NEVER use a valve on your drain plug. Guaranteed that something will bump it and all your oil is gone. Drain plugs are still used after over 125 years because they work.

I think the saying is "If it ain't broke, keep fixing it until it is". Hence the drain valves.

It’s Almost like ford wants the oil to gush out. It’s pretty annoying on the f150 and broncos. Bronco is worse, Really high chances to spill. GM v8s not a drop on the floor.

almost makes it necessary to have one

i’ve used one for over 15 years on an FJ cruiser. It’s been on all kinds of trails. Nothing’s ever hit it. It’s never leaked.

So I guess you're just lucky then.

sure, I’m lucky. I’ve actually had them on like five different vehicles, but not as long as the FJ.

Never had a problem with him. But however, I’ve never had a problem with a standard oil drain plug when I still use those lots of people have a lot of problems with them. The shops changed the oil. Then getting cross threaded and stripped.

There’s a hell of a lot more people that have posted problems with oil drain plugs here then drain valves. This is the first one I’ve ever seen.

I had a Fumoto valve on my WRX for 16+ years until it was sold. Never had an issue.

They lock in place. You can't just bump them. Used them on every vehicle for 15years, no issues including off road.

True, they work. They're cheap though. They cost less. This is why manufacturers use them. Something better would cost more. Anything can fail. The Fumoto valve is a good product. I've used them on multiple cars without a single issue.

Got a fumoto on my wife's Miata. And have had them on past trucks. No issues. You probably just picked up a bad one. Also, if they were made of steel, they would rust in place. Brass is used for a reason. The threads will strip out before the pan will.
