Finally pulled the trigger on my install today, took about 90 minutes including programming (with an assist from Jesse to flash the hvac module). The hardest part for me was getting the trim off the dash that runs under the screen and upper glove box, those clips were super tight.
Nice!! You’ll love it

Looks like the steering wheel price has gone thru the roof?

also will the boosted harness from my 20 super duty work? Never installed the heated wheel on that truck.

Yes, they weren't cheap before now they really aren't at all. Pretty much worth it to just go all the way to a raptor wheel at this point.

Not sure certain on a 2020 SD as that is the previous gen cab style, but I would imagine it has the same main power going to the SCCM. I know it's the same plug on a 2020 Explorer as I added it to one just the same.

I’m reading all this, seems like a lot!
But I have a 23 302A PB and haven’t checked to see if I have the plug in the SCCM.. hoping I do. But I just had a couple questions. If I change it to display the climate on the bottom of the screen, how can I go about getting around to the navigation and CarPlay, setting and features tabs?

Maybe @AntimatterJoe can share what changes he made in ForScan for this

Appreciate that! Thank you so much!

Opening up the steering column cover today to see if I’m able to do this
In the easy mode in Forscan you can select the vehicle as Super Duty in the APIM module. Or you can change the line in the As Built: 7D0-03-02 10XX XXXX XX—. This will enable the climate side card and the heated wheel icon will show up once you make the other changes necessary to enable the heated steering wheel. The only “downside” is that the vehicle pictured in the other side cards, like fuel economy, will be an image of the super duty and not an F-150. It’s barely noticeable though.

Any idea why I would be getting these errors ? Installed hvac and ran the wiring yesterday. I get heat but was unable to do PMI or update software
This was before I made the changes to activate hsw.

Did you load your backup for the modules? I had the incompatible configuration when the glare free settings got reset on the sccm but were still enabled elsewhere, just had to turn it back on in the SCCM.

Just so you know you can stick your phone camera into the little gap behind SCCM and check if there are 2 pins or a just a dummy socket. No need to disassemble anything. However if you need to check if your steering wheel comes with heated feature you will have to pop the airbag off. (just need a small pin to stick in the hole behind steering wheel to unlock the airbag and lift it a little bit for a peak, no need to take it completely off.)

The following is contributed by Scott Maxson on the forum on XLT302A retrofit.

After looking at the nearly 80 pages of the Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit. I found no concise XLT install steps. Below is what I did for my XLT 302A 5.0 FX4 after reviewing the Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit forum and Livnitup's FORScan - 2021-23 F150 spreadsheets.
If you find it appropriate you could add this to the list on page one of the Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit forum.

HSW Changes for XLT 302A
Parts

OEM Heated Steering Wheel: ML3Z-3600-RA or equivalent after market wheel.
OEM Steering Column Control Module (SCCM): ML3Z-3F791-BB
OEM replacement steering wheel bolt (new, never installed): W721079-S437
Harness from jscaro

* HVAC hardware button solution not known for XLT. Soft screen switch needed to make HSW work for XLT enabling Super Duty climate side card.

1. Using FORScan back up all AsBuilt modules (SCCM, APIM, IPC and HVAC minimum) prior to installing parts.
2. Once heated steering wheel, new SCCM and power wire installation is complete.
3. Restored the SCCM saved (AsBuilt) settings to the new SCCM
4. Enabled heated steering wheel in SCCM, APIM, IPC and HVAC with FORScan tool

I started with the 501A steps...

Used these for my XLT 302A 5.0 V8 FX4 with 360 camera and rear window defrost.

APIM 7D0-02-01 xxxx *xxx xx-- change '1' to '5' - CFZ dual zone / SA enable / RC No / HSW available
APIM 7D0-02-02 x*xx xxxx xx-- change '4' to '6' - CAHSW enable / MD on / FDZDLB dual button
APIM 7D0-03-02 **xx xxxx xx-- set to “10” super duty
HVAC 733-01-02 xxx* xxxx xx-- change 1 to 9 - HSW yes / HW no / BPC no / FI yes
IPC 720-05-02 *xxx xx-- change 2 to 3 - HC disable / H enable / HSW enable
SCCM 724-01-01 xxxx *xxx change '0' to '8'- enable HSW
SCCM 724-03-01 x*xx xxxx set LH steering wheel switch SWSLHC to '2' match your switch type (mine had Lane Keep, Lariat has Adaptive Cruise)
SCCM 724-06-01 *xxx xxxx “B” 35 degrees C (typical factory setting)
SCCM 724-06-01 x*xx xxxx “0” no HSW timeout (always on)

If you want HSW on remote start, make these changes at....

APIM 7D0-09-01 xxxx-xxxx-x*-- add '4 bit' to what's there RSSW enabled
IPC 720-02-02 xxxx-x*-- add '4 bit' to what's there RSSW enabled

*edit: I got a few DM asking me about this. I believe by adding '4 bit' it really just means add 4 mathematically. e.g. if it was a 1 at the asterisk digit you will change it to a 5.

Stop here and backup module changes

Power cycle truck and test HSW and heated seats .

Thank you for this awesome write-up from a fellow 302A owner! Reading this prompted me to check on the current prices for the steering wheel. Prices have suddenly dropped dramatically. I just pulled the trigger after lurking in these heated steering wheel threads for a while now. I was not going to do it when the wheels were costing $500.

Edit: wheel is on nationwide backorder. So looks like I'll continue to wait. Hopefully the price is locked in at least.

My aftermarket steering wheel came in today so I decided to disassemble things and attempt to start the install.

I did figure out that for sure I need the other SCCM/clockspring as mine does not have the plug for the heated wheel, just a dummy block off. I still need the harness for the heated wheel and the paddle shifters as well since my truck did not come with those originally.

The last thing I need is a couple pigtail terminals for the SCCM connectors. The aftermarket steering wheel has an LED display that requires a 12v input and a ground. The ground was easy, I was able to just ground it to one of the bolts holding the paddle shifters inside the steering wheel. The 12v feed was a larger issue. The only 12v feed that I could find inside the steering wheel was for the horn, but that cannot be used because as soon as the 12v circuit is grounded it honks the horn. The rest of the wires inside the wheel are all either grounds or reference/signal wires. The heated wheel is 12v, but only when the heating is turned on, and I need a keyed 12v power.

The upside is that the control module that handles the LED steering wheel display does provide a 12v output that is fused off the DLC, so I will just end up running that up to the SCCM and feeding it into the steering wheel. I just need to find the proper pigtail terminals.

That being said, does anyone know where to potentially source the heated wheel and paddle shifter harnesses on the steering wheel side and dash side of the SCCM? I also need to order the SCCM as well.

Was able to complete the heated steering wheel upgrade (on my dime) Thank you to everyone on this thread, especially those that took time to take pics, offer details, all to help dinbats like me figure this out.
Its winter here (mild compared to some of you) and just cold enough to make my hands hurt a lot. This was a huge deal for me to get done.
Had to replace HVAC, SCCM, clockspring, and finally, and luckily, found a used Lariat steering wheet with the heat element. Some forscan updates and bingo!
501a Lariat April 23 build, -$140 credit on windowsticker.
