A dealer can deactivate keys - not sure about DIY. I was concerned that a fob was lost and picked up in a commuter parking lot, so had my dealer deactivate that one and reprogram a replacement.
I have to ask, how much did they charge you for the new fob and deactivation? I wouldn't be to thrilled about a missing fob either, especially if it happened in an area that the vehicle is likely to return and sit unattended often. Good call on your part!

That's the part number for the $27 fob from eBay that I linked to above. Don't see why it wouldn't work. Free return shipping, so you could take a shot, anyway.
Were you able to program the fob for your Lariat or Mach-E, or both? I think the Mach-E and KR have similar electronics that differ from the Lariat. That eBay site even says Dealer or automotive programming required.

Just the Lariat. Didn't try the Mach-E, but noticed that the fobs on ebay for the 2025s were more expensive, so certainly could make sense at least for them. The compatibly chart for the F-150 one I linked to lists 2025 KR, but that doesn't really answer the dealer question. I will note that one of the Mach-E listings says "You will need the assistance of a dealer or qualified locksmith for programming unless you have two working key fobs." So maybe possible? If the dealer has to do it then meh.

I think it was in the order of $500 CAD. It stung… but worth addressing the concern about returning to the lot one day with no truck in it.

I recently purchased my 2024 from a Ford dealer with 2 key fobs (push button start).

On the way home I found one of them did not work and later learned it was a knock off key (not OEM). This means that 2 original keys had been provided by the factory and at some point the knock off had been added. So......... a total of 3 keys had been programmed to this F150.

I could never get the knock off key to work and neither could Ford. So having one working key, I ordered a new fob portion of the key (the fob is 2 parts) for about $199 and it cost about $120 for Ford to program. That makes 4 total keys that have been programmed to this F150.

NOTE: I did not know that 4 was the new limit for programmed keys.

I then ordered 2 Ford OEM keys of ebay for about $60 each thinking I could program them myself. NOT!! I have to go to Ford....... pay them to delete all 4 keys that had been programmed and add back the 2 working keys that I had.......... $120. This brought me back to two working keys and now I had the ability to program 2 keys myself. Which I did in a matter of seconds. It also cost me about $100 to get the mechanical key blanks cut on the 2 new keys.

I now again have 4 working keys. 4 in hand that work.

$199 + $120 + $120 + $120 + $100 = $660

Really it cost me about $320 to go from 1 to 2 working keys.
Then it cost me about $340 to go from 2 to 4 working keys.

My advice is to get at least a 3rd key programmed and cut while you have 2 working keys. This saves a ton of aggravation and cost and time. For about $60 on ebay and about $50 to get the blank cut, you are done. You can program the 3rd key yourself in seconds. About $110 and you never have to waste time dealing with Ford.

Another important thing is to have the actual keycode, so you can walk into a dealer and get a key cut in an emergency. I assume a good locksmith also.

I see that 3rd key has been very popular in recent weeks, so I'll join along :D, can't hurt having another one.

How do I know that the fob I am looking at (eBay for example) matches mine and will work in my truck? I see this one for example, but only the first 6 characters (A2C913) match mine, the remaining digits don't match. What do I need to look at on my fob to have the right one?

Edit: NM, it matches mine except mine doesn't have the last two 00.

Still, is that the only thing I need to verify that a fob will work in my truck?

3rd key is great only because you need 2 to program a new fob.

I've been quoted $55+tax for walk-in storefront locksmith to cut the 'security grooves' on a 2022 fob removable key blank.

Sound typical?

Sounds cheap from what I was quoted in Ca. They told me around a hundred bucks. As long as I don’t loose the 2 I have no need to cut the 3rd. Would just add that key to the next fob.

I have no need to cut the 3rd.
I understand that many folks don't, just figured if I'm assembling a spare for 'what if' it might as well be fully functional for all purposes.

The quoting locksmith is one I've used in the past in my small TX town.

Thanks for the reply and encouraging cost mention.

Just a word of advice: when I was wanting to cut my 3rd key, I talked to several folks (locksmiths). The most important thing that they all warned me about is. you only get one cut and if the place cutting ruins the cut, you are out that key. The one big locksmith I went to that said they could cut it but would not , told me that they did not have any of the cheaper keys that they use for a test cut so they would not cut my good one.

FYI be careful!

Just a word of advice .....
Thanks for the heads-up, I'll visit with the locksmith about that risk when I'm in the shop and decide how / if to move forward accordingly.

After reading a number of these posts, I'm feeling very lucky... I had a key cut copy made of the key within the keyfob sometime within the first 3 or 4 months of ownership, and it cost something like $25, and at the time, I thought that price was outrageous. (Little did I know....) The primary reason for getting a readily accessible key was so I could lock the glove box and center console storage.

I used the instructions and was easily able to program a 3rd key (did take 2x, but that was because I was slow the first time).
