Has anyone with their two original keys in-hand NOT been able to DIY program a proper genuine Ford 3rd key by following these instructions in the Owner's Manual?

OR, if you've done it successfully, please post-up too!

TIA

Took me two or three times, but following those instructions I did succeed eventually.

I’ve done the keyed version on my ‘24 truck and on other Fords, though some Ford models you can’t do it to that way.

On your fob, make sure you find the small print and compare FCCID numbers between your factory fobs and the new one. Even if the new one looks the same, make sure that number matches. It may be inside fob where the emergency key slot is.

Interesting, its probably worth picking up/programming another fob just to insure that I still have 2 on hand incase 1 goes missing. I just assumed that a new fob could be programmed using forscan or something of the like after the fact.

After I put one thru the wash in my jeans I ordered one online. Luckily the one thru the wash dried out and worked. So I was able to program the spare one. Now have 3 2 with cut keys.

Definitely worth it, especially because I got one off ebay for $27 and it works. Cheap insurance. Same as @Ricksc, I have just the two originals with cut keys and the new one blank.

Bought a used 21 last March, programed a third FOB without issue in accordance to the owners manual.

So I have to ask...it says that you can program up to 4 fobs. The devils advocate in me has to wonder, what do you have to do if you need to program more than 4? Is there a way to remove fobs that are no longer/lost to free up space or is this another trip to the dealer?

I did a third key but I watched a Youtube video for the instructions. Went through on the second try as I was slow the first time.

Once I wrote down the steps and had the keys laid out in order, it was a breeze the second time.

I did not cut the emergency hard key and this is the fob I give to facilities when they need it for work being done to it.

I'd like to know if anyone has been successful programming a 3rd fob on a higher trim level, like a King Ranch or Platinum. Places I've contacted all said it had to be done by the dealer or locksmith. I've got a '24 KR Powerboost. Supposedly for '24 - '25 certain trim levels have unique electronics.

The part numbers for my OE fob are:
164-R8370
M3N-A3C108397

Ford Part number on fob RL3T-15K601-BA
434Mhz

That's the part number for the $27 fob from eBay that I linked to above. Don't see why it wouldn't work. Free return shipping, so you could take a shot, anyway.

A dealer can deactivate keys - not sure about DIY. I was concerned that a fob was lost and picked up in a commuter parking lot, so had my dealer deactivate that one and reprogram a replacement.
