A dealer can deactivate keys - not sure about DIY. I was concerned that a fob was lost and picked up in a commuter parking lot, so had my dealer deactivate that one and reprogram a replacement.
Or just download the manual: https://www.ford.ca/support/vehicle/f150/2021/owner-manuals/
There is also a maintenance schedule for the larger “milestones “ in the Ford Pass app in the “service” section.
I’d be wary about relying on ChatGPT’s advice. Every 16k for an oil change is the upper end...
Ha!! I had that same ‘security system’ on my ‘84 Cherokee. Used to hand my keys to some high school buddies and challenge them to get it started for the occasional laugh.
I think it depends on the dealer. My dealership threw in a discounted maintenance plan when I bought my ‘21 - they were good about making sure I got the service done before the time expired (time and max mileage are the hard caps) - even though I was still below the “interval”. I echo Bobcatou...
Tech specs for stock 2021 F150’s, based on different options, are here. Not a complete answer - but gives you a starting point. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/product/2021/f150/pdfs/2021-F-150-Technical-Specs.pdf
RCI offers a nice package and they are currently on sale. They offer a PB and non-PB variant as needed: https://rcimetalworks.com/product/2015-2023-f-150-full-skid-plate-package/
I just installed the front engine and transmission plates on my 21 EB - very easy install.
Your’s sounds louder than mine when jacked up - but essentially the same sound. While driving, sometimes it could be heard, sometimes not - until it got real bad. The dealer cracked open the pumpkin to have a look, and the diff fluid was full of metal shavings. I suppose that would be your...
I) I’ve long heard the advice not to lift by the pumpkin - apparently b/c some don’t line the jack up correctly and the cover plate can be nudged/unseated and cause a leak. Never actually seen it happen.
ii) The rear diff in my 21 XLT shred itself apart in the first 3 months / 1,800 miles...
I really enjoyed this post.
I had my boys (10 and 12) in the back seat the first time I tried sport mode, from a stop at an empty intersection. They both exclaimed “What was that?!?”, and looking in the rear view I could see them grinning ear-to-ear.
Sorry - wasn’t trying to misstate your original post. Just trying to explain my understanding that different packages come with different frame thicknesses - which *may* explain some differences and a lot of people (myself included for a long time) had no idea about. I’m not defending Ford...
When there are multiple frame options for a given wheel base / cab / drivetrain, there are unspecified options that determine what frame is used. For ex. - Reg cab 4x2 and 122 WB can have either the LD or the HD frame. This table doesn’t tell you when you get the LD and when you get the HD...
Thx!
As I read the table - there are 3 different frame sizes (designated LD/HD/HPP) similar to the past generation. The table doesn’t show which frames are matched with which trim/engine/options, so you need to make sure you are comparing trucks with the same frame for an “apples to apples”...
Interested to see what you find. My truck is a 21 XLT 3.5 EB with tow package (not max tow), so it is a 14th gen, and had the “GVWR package” on the window sticker. One of the motivations for the truck was to pull a travel trailer with the family - including 3 kids and a dog - so I was paying...
So I went down a similar rabbit hole 1.5yrs ago when I bought my truck, and didn’t understand what the GVWR Package on the window sticker referred to. Found this article that explained that the frame thickness is different for different trims / engines / packages ...
I also had the same problem. Toggling the brake assist did not help.
After some googling, came across TSB 22-2121 re trucks built in Oct 21 at the KC plant. Dealer reflashed a module (ipma) and did an alignment of the backup camera (took about 4.5 hours). System is working now.
My truck was a 2021 Job 2 that came with DH - drove off the lot 4.5 months before the recall. I suppose Ford could have been *hoping* the issue didn’t carry through in DH, but it seems unlikely that this was programmed to resolve the issue.
FYI: Ford submitted a new doc to the NHTSA re OTA...
This is similar to the functionality I’m seeing (post 290). My F133/Assembly code has a “DH” designation (unlike your DJ) - but the software version is the same.
The “Ford customer relationship centre” number was 1-888-222-7814 (though I’m in Canada).
(F113): ASSEMBLY version is MU5T-19J294-DH
For completeness,(F188): STRATEGY (SW VERSION) is MU5T-19J297-DH
