Hands Free Cellphone Buzzing/Static

2021 F150 - I have the same issue, appeared to have started after Power-up 6.4.0, but not exactly sure. My wife an I both have the Motorola Z4 and mine has the issue her does not, yet mine works great with every other blue tooth device I have. If I place a call, click the button to send it to the phone speaker and back to the truck the call works fine. It's a pain, but a work around. Thinking about new phone, but read somewhere another person did that and the problem reappeared. Sure would ne nice if Ford offered a way to back out updates to see if that is the problem or not.

Thanks for chiming in with your experience. In a weird way it's nice to know I'm not the only one with this issue. I'll have to try that trick you suggested to see if it works for me. I'll report back how it goes.

I see a pattern so far that we all have Motorola phones. Maybe we got a bad set of chips during Covid in our phones?

I tried that on my way home from work today and it worked. Sound was ok on my end. My wife said she heard a small bit of static on her end, but nothing like it was before.

New Moto G Stylus 5G 2023 and phone voices as static are gone. I think some Moto phones have a poor bluetooth connection?

I concur with your Bluetooth observation.

I've had the same static issues on my 21. It happend with my old galaxy note 8 and still does with the new galaxy s24+. As others have said, switching to speaker on the phone and back to bt seems to clear things up, but what a pain when you're rolling done the road on city streets.

I'm experiencing the same thing after an update. I have a Moto g Power, Android 11. Took it to the dealer and after checking APIM updates and no improvement they told me that Ford is aware of the issue and OTA fixes should happen in the 4th Quarter of 2024. This is a royal pain.

Makes you wonder if the issue is with Ford, Motorola or the Qualcomm chipsets used by Motorola. Q4 seems like a long time to get the fix figured out, but then again Ford is working with how many suppliers for these truck modules that each claim their code as proprietary?

I mean everything is good and then, boom, not good, Not a confidence builder for sure. I don't want to buy another phone if I don't know that'll work. I tried a Pixel 7 and while the static wasn't as bad there was no voice at all.

I am going to upgrade to a newer phone Moto G Stylus 5G 2023 via my carrier Google Fi that has a deal for only $100.

The current workaround was provided by FJohn1977. When you make your call, tap the send to phone icon twice. It seems to reset the connection. Rumor is Ford knows about the issue and will have an OTA fix in Q4.

The Mustang forum says that 6.14 OTA fixed it, but I'm not seeing any updates available for my 2021 F-150.

It does, but not before my ear drums get blown out, and also the other end says the call is not clear. Also, the double tap only works if Im using the phone in Sync, not Android Auto.

I FINALLY FOUND A FIX:

Went to System settings on my phone and went to 'Reset Options' and then reset the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

This deletes all of your previous Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections, but I think it also changes your Bluetooth address.
