Hi, looking for a little direction from the group. I recently took delivery on a PB. When driving I notice a very loud humming / buzzing sound at speeds between 5 and 25 MPH all the time. I can hear it when in battery mode and when the engine is running. Is this normal? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes thats normal, its from speaker to alert pedestrians since there is no engine noise when in electric mode.

I am hearing the exact same thing and it’s very annoying. Is there any way to disable? Is this noted in the manual?

I am hearing the exact same thing and it’s very annoying. I drove a KR PB a few months before I purchased and I do not recall hearing that noise. Have you checked with dealer?

NHTSA in 2016 mandated that all new electric or hybrid vehicles make enough “noise” that the visually impaired can hear them. Without the rumble of a traditional powertrain as a warning, unsuspecting pedestrians or cyclists might move into the path of a hybrid or fully electric vehicle running purely off the battery. NHTSA research has found hybrid-pedestrian collisions occurred around 1.2 times the rate of normal internal combustion engine vehicles.

The agency four years ago enacted the rule that any vehicle weighing up to 10,000 pounds must make between 43-64 decibels at speeds up to 18.6 mph or in reverse. Anything moving faster makes enough tire or wind noise that a blind pedestrian could hear it anyway, according to the agency.

Yeah mine does it, you can hear it grow in volume from 15-20 mph, then fall off up through around 25. I definitely don't find it annoying, doesn't bother me as much as the idea of possibly hurting someone if they don't hear the truck.

That said, it should turn off while the engine is on in the same scenario. Doesn't seem hard to have implemented that.

Great point! Thanks for the feedback. Just wanted to make sure it wasn’t an issue I needed to address with dealer. Thanks!

Yes, Mine makes the "logans run" sound whether the engine is running or not up to about 20 MPH which is where it sounds like it's tapering off bernoulli effect style, for me it just encourages the gas mileage game as I leave or enter the subdivision lol, I'm still trying to crest the 100 electric miles driven on a tank, I've only managed 79 thus far

Yes, it sounds like flatulence; no, you can't disable it without throwing a DTC

I'm going to look into covering it with sound absorbing material such as Dyna-Mat & Duck tape

These PB vehicles do make a lot of noise at low speeds.... there is always something clanking or whirring. Figured it was just normal electric power train noise. Now... if we could just get rid of the stupid Ding Ding Ding when backing up. I feel like I'm driving a forklift rather than a F-150 PowerBoost. Is this a new thing for 2021 vehicles? or just Hybrids?

It’s the law for hybrid and electric vehicles

I too have noticed this groaning/buzzing noise. Seems like they could make the noise stop when the ICE kicks on. It makes the noise on both electric only or engine on.
