Loved my time with you guys, but I just returned from trading in my F150 KR Powerboost. I really liked my time in the PB and I loved all of the tales told on this board. However, I felt that I am not getting any younger and time might be running out on the V-8 Era. I wanted one last drive down the old V8 lane. I didn't want to just grab a Coyote (love the engine) as it would still be too similar. I wanted something different and something Snakebitten might approve of...

Very nice! I'm in my 150 because when I had to trade couldn't find a 250. Love my 150 but I drove a 250 for 20 years, so I guess I am just stuck in old habit's. I do like the gas mileage with the 5.0. My 03 F250 V10 never got better than 14MPG down hill.

Truth. I am averaging right 13.8. It's fine. I drive my Bronco around town most of the time. But man, the sound of the engine is pure music.

Good for you. We live in a golden age for Engines, so many good options it can almost be overwhelming. I hope the V8 stays for the foreseeable future, I think Dodge learned how loyal people are to the V8 when they pulled it from the Ram lineup. However, you are right if you want one the current Gen Coyote is a great choice and you should grab it while you can.

I have a 8.2L V8 in our boat to scratch the itch, if we didnt have that I would have taken a much harder look at the 5.0 when we were truck shopping. Just something cool, and really American, about a big V8.

Turing the key and hearing it start up - always puts a smile on my face in the way a turbo V6 just cant.

I tow my 7.4 Liter with my 5.0 Liter ;). Had to throw a pic in because I deep cleaned the bilge and motor last night.

I'd eat off that Bilge - thats clean.

Love a big block in a boat. Our previous boat had a 6.2 Small Block in it, which was fine, but man the Big Block has so much more mid range torque. It's also just so much nicer driving the boat across the lake at 2800rpm vs 3800 in the small block.

The only down side is watching the fuel flow gauge....but can you put a price on fun?

Pic attached since we are showing off engines now. My Bilge isnt as clean but I win by 0.8 :)

It keeps my Formula on plane at 2700 rpm, I’d like to do the 8.2L eventually but the 7.4 has 40 psi at hot idle and superb compression so I can’t bring myself to get rid of it for no reason yet. Mercury dealer said all my 7.4 accessories will be an exact bolt up to the 8.2 (fuel pump, water pump, alternator, valve covers etc are all the exact same. You can see we have the same valve covers underneath all the plastic on yours. I don’t want those fat cats though! So I’d need to do long block and manifolds in lieu of buying the complete engine. Turn key they are required to sell you cats they said. Intake you can go with theirs or an aftermarket. 8.2L Long block will accept either Carb or MPI. It would essentially be that exact engine but without DCT and the emissions equipment bolted on.

I don't blame you at all the 7.4 isn't a bad engine. We are in a 26ft Cobalt and 2800rpm is about 30 - 32mph trimmed up. Cant beat it. I wish we could have avoided the Cat's...I also wish we could have found one /w through hull exhaust, saw yours had it.

Our 6.2 had the Corsa selectable exhaust and with no Cats on a cold start it sounded amazing. The 8.2 still rumbles - you can tell it would sound sooo good through the hull I just dont want to cut the two 5in holes. I will say I have heard a 8.2 with cats /w through hull and it truthfully doesn't sound as good as our old 6.2. The cats really do muffle a lot of the sound.

I assume you meant DTS not DCT, if you did Digital Throttle is super nice, it takes some getting used to but one you do its a game changer. Not enough to upgrade a perfectly fine 7.4l but once you have it you wouldn't go back.

VesselView is also really nice, gives a ton of insight into how the engine is running. Also as I mentioned above lets you view fun things like Fuel Flow rate, which while good to know may also make you cry a bit :)

Formula makes awesome boats, I have said they may be our next, but they just dont do real well in the 24 - 26ft range which is where I would want to stay. If i was looking at anything larger they would be a top choice!

Cobalts are great boats, well put together. Formula calls the exhaust Silent Thunder, it goes through baffles in the swim platform. Not obnoxious like some of the thru-hulls and acts as a mild muffler of sorts. Maybe resonator is the more appropriate term!
